This has been going on for years (over 20). It was the one of the reasons I got out of the QH racing business. When things went bust in the 80s and the tax policies were changed harming wealthy people in the racehorse business, in steps drug money toted by Mexicans. Just as the TB business is willing to prostitute itself to the Arabs, the QH business did it with the Mexican drug cartels. For years Spanish was the language spoken by the barn help now it is the language spoken in the summer sales at Ruidoso and Heritage Place.

The top QH jockeys make more money flying to Mexico, riding in match races than they do winning a top stakes here.

Those suckers were training 2 barns away from me all winter. None of us ever knew any of their names, just that they were The Cartel Guys. The pony boy would say "Good Morning". The guy stabled behind me at Ruidoso is match race central - fancy, fancy rigs in and out of his side every race day. Hope they catch and lock up every one of the slimey bastards. I am glad they prefer the Quarter Pounders over the TBs at least, send some of the bad press their way for a change!!

The TB industry doesn't have clean hands in relation to drug money and criminals behind it. They have just been a little more discrete and most of the people involved were not the Mexican morons who flaunted their money and flash. I had two clients buying up TBs, who I thought were a real estate developer and a CPA, that wound up doing 20 years for drug trafficking. If you dig deep enough, you will find dirty money behind a lot of horse transactions. Honest money is too hard to come by for most people to put at such risk.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I hope they catch all the jerks, regardless of their breed preference. They got some here in NM a few months ago, Ramon Gonzalez and his nephew Andres Gonzalez, who were nasty buggers and had both breeds. When one would get 10 or 11 bad tests piled up and get ruled off the other would step in as 'trainer' and then he'd get the bad tests piled up and they'd switch back... Those guys had lots of drug money. The feds are feeding an awful lot of horses between those 2 busts!!

Need some starting gates? Here is some that the state has confiscated from a little Cucaracha Derby held on the state line. Seems the race fans had a little problem understanding that all betting needed to go through the racing commission first. If only we had printed the rules in Spanish. But then, most of them can't read in any language. Several hundred were arrested and most of them were here illegally. I'm sure Eric Holder is on the case to assure there is no discrimination for these potential Obama voters, if they get sent back he will probably give each one a gun to take back.
