Praying for Connecticut families
I know your lives will never be the same after today.
Amen. God comfort the families in their sorrow.
We will never know what was going on in the killer's mind for certain, but I suspect that we will find once again as the details come out that he was a young man with few social connections and an escalating history of mental illness. Unfortunately, the mental health and legal systems in this country simply aren't equipped to identify the relatively few mentally ill with a high potential for violence and get them into treatment (involuntarily if necessary) before a tragedy occurs. Under most states' laws, a mentally ill person cannot be involuntarily committed unless he or she is judged to represent an immediate threat to themselves or others -- I have read of too many cases in which a parent pleaded with the authorities to have a an adolescent or adult child with increasingly violent and paranoid tendencies hospitalized, only to be turned away because at the time of the hearing or psychiatric evaluation, the sick person was not making direct threats to him/herself or others and was not willing to be admitted voluntarily. Too often, either the parent or the child ends up as a casualty; you just don't hear about it as much in the news because a mother getting knifed or bludgeoned to death by her mentally ill son in her own home doesn't get broadcast as widely as the much rarer but more horrific massacres in public places.

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher...You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse." C. S. Lewis
Amen, bless their little hearts, and their families also. Also the first responders who are the ones that have to see the scenes of these terrible shootings before anyone else. I'm sure it sticks with them.
What is going on in the world? God help us.
And also, God Bless each and every one of you, those that love the magnificent horse, and that care about them. God Bless you all.

We will NEVER see another Ruffian......
— March 13, 1996: Thomas Hamilton, 43, kills 16 kindergarten children and their teacher in elementary school in Dunblane, Scotland, and then kills himself.
Strict British gun laws didn't stop Thomas Hamilton in Great Britain in 1996, and wouldn't have stopped it here. Criminals break laws and get guns.
What would have been nice, would have been some armed teachers packing a pistol in their purse could have put a bullet in this guy before he killed all the children.
I suspect this this crazy guy Lanza might have had some religious beliefs about killing innocent souls and making them his slaves in the afterlife. That's how sick this guy was. It's to bad he didn't get taken to Sunday School to learn about Jesus and the Christian religion when he was a kid.
Of course it's all you guys who want to make it illegal for a person to own a gun to protect themselves from people like Lanza illegal, are the same ones who don't like the Christian religion.
The Iranians have got enough plutonium to make several nuclear bombs. They are going to kill thousands and thousands of people including children when they use them. The rulers of Iran are every bit as crazy as Adam Lanza. To bad President Obama isn't doing anything about that. He'll be trying to take your guns that will protect you from people like Lanza though.
Considering the population proportionality, the slaughter in Scotland was way worse than the the recent one in the U.S.A. It's all horrible, but the Scottish with their gun control laws intact had the greatest slaughter.
Gun control laws don't prevent maniacs and religious fanatics from committing evil acts. They just leave law abiding citizens who can't legally own a gun to defend themselves with; defenseless.

To anyone reading this thread I realise that I have made an awful mistake by hijacking the story and making my personal frustrations the center of discussion so I have now deleted them and just simply am joining those who are in mourning for those poor souls taken far too soon in an awful act of violence. They are front and center of my thoughts tonight and probably will remain so for a very long time.
Here is the list of the 20 children and 6 adults massacred Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. I thought I'd post this for those of you who would like to remember the deceased by name in your prayers. God Bless their souls and give their family member's the strength to get through this horrendous tragedy.
