Silks info. please

Postby erhrdt3 » Tue Feb 26, 2013 1:41 pm

Hi forum friends,

Today is the day I have been waiting for excitedly! Its now time to order our silks as the horses are ready to go to the track! I am so excited I can't tell you as its been so long!

Our farm is in Lexington, however it really does not matter where the silks maker is; we are looking for good quality as I have a custom design for the back of them, and of course, we want the best price possible. We are looking for the tight kind of silks, not the kind that flap in the wind like parachute material.

Can you friends help me out by recommending a silks maker for me? I can look on the web, but word of mouth is the best way to go I've found out. I know many of you race and you have gotten yours, so that's why I'm asking on here.

Many thanks ahead of time, I am so excited! Thank you all for your input!

I think you mean you want the lycra silks? Rather than nylon? Those are also called "aerodynamic" silks. I ended up making my own.. I wish you luck in your search.

Hi Madelyn, wow you made your own?! You are incredible. I think if I tried to make my own they'd come apart as the poor horse was running the oval!

I have a design saved on my photos section, and now I can't get it to go onto my email so I can send it to the various companies that make them. ughghghghgh

Champion Silks has always been popular.

I had mine done by Horse Country Life in Warrenton, VA. Not sure if they still make them or not..

Just FYI - If you plan on racing in New York state, you need to register your silks with the Jockey Club - http://www.jockeyclub.com/silks.asp

Thank you so much for the info~

We are not planning on going to New York....yet

The problem I'm having now is that I have an original design for the back of the silks, and I can't get the darn photo I have stored in my favorite photos to copy and go into my email so I can email it to the maker.

Forgot to ask, do I buy the pants individually, or do they come with the silks package?

Thanks again!

The jockeys provide their own pants.

erhrdt, you seem to have a bit of a short term memory lapse.

Ten months ago you posted "2 of our horses are ready to go" and you requested information on having silks made. We offered you suggestions which you apparently forgot or ignored. http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/view ... ight=silks

Out of curiosity, where did the two aforementioned horses "go"?

erhrdt, I ended up making my own (at a cost of about $24 per jacket) because while they advertise prices like $120 or $150 starting, by the time I got my blue collar and cuffs, and the sort of "coat of arms" design (loosely based on my family's crest) on there it was something like $400. I went with the nylon because, well, they get beat to heck and washed a thousand times, and lost sometimes. The most expensive part of mine was the lovely engraved brass snaps I got for the front, that cost $8 per jacket.

Thank you Madelyn for your info. You indeed are amazing at all the things you do.

Paticket~I did not know you are following me so closely. Kind of creepy actually.
FYI, the filly that was ready to go got wound up in her stall, kicked it, and hurt her leg. WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN RUNNING HORSES WITH INJURIES, GET IT?

Her half brother unfortunately caught an infection, it seemed something respitory and WE WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE HIM TRAIN AND BREATHE HARD WHILE UNTIL HE AND WE WERE READY. I also have been extremely sick and just this very morning had an outpatient surgery.

I've been told these type of things happen in this business, surely others on here have had horses that they had ready and something happened! These are living animals, not machines and we surely do not believe in making them do something they are not 110 percent ready for. FYI, I also have 1/4 mile race cars, I drive one that brings the front end off the ground. And I'm a girl. And I love beating the heck out of guys who think they can win just because I'm a female driver. So screw you. That was totally uncalled for.

So, my apologies to the NICE people that answered my question. And my thanks. I appreciate your recommendations and I have contacted those very compani(es) Dear Madelyn, I can't sew to save my life but I sure admire you! :D

If unjustified conclusions were fences and hedges you'd be a Champion Hunter.

Nine months ago Patuxet posted the most informative reply you received when you asked the same question that initiated this thread. The little zinger about your short term memory hardly merits such a rude and overreactive diatribe.

You know what, there are some others that have asked same/similar questions. Asking questions and getting information is one of the best things forums are for!

I always make sure to say THANK YOU to everyone that gives info. There is nothing wrong with that!

Why be so snooty? I heard that alot of horse people are and this proves it. Not most of you but some.

Again, there is nothing wrong with asking a question and if someone wants to answer great! I always thank the person very much. Nothing wrong with that?!

What I forgot to put in the response to the hate letter I rec'd from someone named DDT is that my computer completely crashed and I lost alot of my information I did have saved. When I get an answer about something like this simple assed subject, I will "Save" it. Well my computer is old, and I have not had the chance to get my new one up and going yet as I've been sick and had surgery this morning.

I have seen people jump on Jorge also for no reason and also Dublino. He and I had words one time but now I am proud to call him friend. That's all I want, to talk to friendly folks and to gain more knowledge. I believe the term is 'word of mouth' as far as getting the best places to go, etc.

And I thank Madelyn again so very much for being kind and just posting what she does. Thank you Madelyn, you are a kind person. And I appreciate you very much. As I do all the other friendly folks.

When asking a question is against the law, then I think the internet would be a very different place.

Adios! :P
