Toussaud

I see that the data base carries Toussaud as a "Blue Hen" .

Who decides a mare is a Blue Hen and what is the criteria?

Don't know who makes these decisions, but a mare that has thrown four G1 winners and a G2 winner from six foals to race sure qualifies in my book.

I think you are talking about Reines-de-course which are assigned by Ellen Parker. You can read more about them at her website www.reines-de-course.com

Toussaud is in foal to A P Indy. She had her last foal early May of 2004. Wonder how late this one is going to be this year...??? She is delicate and the foals go within a few days to a nurse mare, but she sure throws winners!

On the old board there was a thread all about Blue Hens.

Toussaud was produced from the (Phalaris) Sire Side and (Fair Play) Cross on the Dams Side.

Toussaud was BOY and has been a gold mine producer.

Would love to see a foal by Toussaud from the cover of Unbridleds Song or Buddah or Najran.

That would be SEVERELY ill-thought out and underbreeding her to the extreme (especially with Budda or Najran).

I wouldn't take a grade mare to Budda.

Sorry, Jorge. Breeding her to a grey stud just so you can hope for a grey foal is silly. Ask the paint people, breed JUST for colour and you set yourself up for a world of hurt.

I was visiting Lanes End last Friday and Toussaud was just bred to AP Indy that day (4/15,) so it is too early to pronounce in foal yet.

I was certain that I read that Toussaud was bred to AP Indy in 2004 for a foal to arrive this spring. What happened to this years' foal?

Does it look like any of theis greatness is being pased on; i.e., how are her offspring producing?

Too early to tell .. IIRC she's had mostly colts and only Chester House has foals old enough to race yet (I think his first crop are 2 this year)

The data base has 54 2002 Chester House foals. Nothing in that group leaps out at you but the data is not always current.

I also noticed that Chiselling was sent to South America. He may not have won the triple crown but it seems there would have been a better demand for her sons in the USA.

Actually most of her sons stayed here. I believe Civilization is in Virginia, Decarchy is in California, Chester House was at Juddmonte until he died and Empire Maker is there now. Most mares--even really good ones--don't even have two sons that have an opportunity at stud and here she has had at least 5. Very unique.

Empire Maker in KY for $100k

Decarchy in CA for $5k

Civilisation in WV for $3.5k

Chiselling in SA for ?

Which is the best value?

Again, with no foals to race, there is no real way to judge.

Purely hypothetically speaking (and ignoring the fact that I hate the idea of this kind of stallion BEING at stud in the first place) .. I'd take a mare to Civilisation first simply based on Gone West's record as a sire of sires.
