Giacomo

Funny, I used to groom a dressage horse by the same name. He was a determined, cranky bastard, too.

Well, I hope no one lost their house on this one!

I think I heard Jorge screaming all the way out here in Vegas.

No Northern Dancer, no Raise A Native. When was the last time you saw a Derby winner with a pedigree like that?

Ya know, I hope the guy at work who asked me for a long shot played Giacomo, like I told him to.

'Cause I didn't.
:?
And if I'm gonna pick a longshot winner for once, SOMEBODY had better have SOMETHING to show for it....no-one's gonna believe me otherwise....

Betcha there were some MAJOR roars in the Darley Camp- and anyone in on Holy Bull at $15k this year is probably rolling in it now!

I agree - WOW

Watched amazed at the field of horses, coming out of the gates, navigating to get to the front. What a nice run for Mike Smith and a real show for GIACOMO!!! ;)

Anyone bet this long-shot? :)

Yeah, I wish I put a $2 bet on him, too... all I can say is DAAAAAAAAANG! What a race!!!! His owners must have been going crazy at the finish... my husband was bummed that we didn't put money on him... but Wilco finished a respectable 6th, better than Bandini, and he beat Bellamy Road... so I don't feel too bad!

That was AWESOME!!! Esp. the arial view replay... that was cool, seeing him weave through the holes...

Did anyone see it coming??

Did anyone see the earlier turf race, with the winner Americana(?) coming from dead last to win? That was an exciting race, too!!

What a great day to watch!!!

Just had a thought- anyone reckon he'll stand at stud alongside his father?

Think of the 'Sting' related progeny names- or is he a gelding? :?

Ken Rudolph on TVG and the guy I used to work for both had him.

Probably Jorge

I doubt anyone else did

Poor Steinbrenner...Bellamy Road sure didn't make much of a showing. Spanish Chestnut was suppose to wear out all of the other horses, not Bandini! :D Zito trained 25% of the field...where did any of them finish? I hope he's got some good answer's for the owner's.

I heard one of the commentators say that Mike Smith was Holy Bull's jockey when Holy Bull made his Derby run. Did he have his fact's right?

Twenty horses is just too big a field! They need to limit the field to 15 horses! I can't enjoy the race for worrying that a horse/jockey is gonna get hurt.

Best showing was Bellamy finishing 7th

That would be correct.

Nonsense. I've seen MORE traffic problems/breakdowns in 8 horse fields. They run fields that sized EVERYday overseas.

Well kiss my a**, I knew the owner connection, but I didn't realize the name connection, or I would have bet on him. All my animals are named after rock n roll songs, or groups. Have a blue heeler named STING... AND, I used to have a Stop The Music filly. What a swamee angle I missed

The problem I have with fields that large is that they make traffic-navigation-ability and luck more important factors in the order of finish than actual speed.
