Hi RDHarding,

I'll give an opinion because this is a broodmare but I'm going to pass on giving opinions and advice in the future when such general requests are made. I need more information than a hip number or name and don't want to run after anyone to get the informatioon that should be provided.

It's like being asked to give opinions on a Mazda Miata without knowing how big your family is and what you'll use the car for. Hate to see someone towing a trailer in that thing.

You need to look at her foal, hip #2594 to get an idea of what this mare is worth (as well as seeing what her foals page look like). Mares with foals selling at the same sale are of more interest to me since I can see what she's produced, otherwise I must have some reservation about buying a mare where the seller's seen 1 or 2 foals and I haven't.

This family has enough highlights to make a decent catalog page, but on closer examination it's not the type of family that gets me excited.

Pinetop is a minor stakes placed winner, her real quality perhaps $25k claimer, and that's acceptable. Her stakes-placed sister, Titia, just got her bracket this year at age 6. This is not a family that's liable to get a high percentage of 2yo winners. It's really a blue-collar family (nothing wrong with that) who has gotten some black-type along the way. Only Intrusion in 2 gens is genuine stakes quality.

1st dam Streisand and 2nd dam Kendra Road have consistently had average (or close) sales prices for their stallions. I like that consistency and hope that it passes on to Pinetop.

There's just enough black-type to keep the page interesting. You may get some help in the first generation from Funny Girl (1995 by El Gran Senor) but little likely from Road Music ( 1994 by Strawberry Road) who is being bred to the likes of Rinka Das. Titia should get to the shed some time soon, but she's help for the future.

Glitterman is not a favorite but he still held a $30,000 average at Keeneland and his mare base is more like this mare than not.

Overall it's a plain lot without a lot of holes.
1 - The mare could run some and has minor black-type.
2 - The broodmare sire is doing reasonably well so far (better than he was as a sire).
3 - There's black-type and some respectable runners in each of the first three generations.
4 - Respectable cover stallion. Decent cover date.
5 - Limited but some potential, (Funny Girl, Exploit weanling).

I believe she'll sell for in the area of $25,000.

I'd find out when she had the Exploit foal. The close to the cover date the better, otherwise she may be showing some signs of being a less prolific breeder.

Good luck,

Pete

Hi RDHarding,

Just looked at the Exploit filly's listing (Pinetop's foal).

Exploit was foaled on 2/15/04.

I'd be less aggressive in bidding on this mare because she missed cycles after the Exploit and if she misses the same time after the Glitterman you'll either be open or looking at a June cover date.

Having been open before the Exploit and getting her in foal on (or about) March 10th, she probably didn't catch first cover (possible that she did).

Thus it is possible that after an open year, she missed a cover (possibly 2) to Exploit and then missed 2-3 cover opportunities to Glitterman.

Regards,

Pete
