She's listed as a bay...but to me she looks like a smutty buckskin. Am I wrong? She's a Gold Case filly.

She looks like a sooty buckskin to me, here's another example.

I understand that, but was just wondering if I was correct in thinking she was a buckskin.

I'd say it's unlikely that this filly is dilute.
She doesn't have any of the known bloodlines for dilute and the most likely candidate for finding another dilute line in TBs would be in an obscure line of homozygous bays (any dilute chestnut would be an obvious palomino and would likely get some notice, but buckskins are a bit more subtle)
In this case:
- the sire's a known chestnut so could NOT have passed a dilute gene.
- the dam is a bay, but the dam's dam is a chestnut and the dam's sire had a fair # of offspring, many of whom were chestnut. Doesn't make it impossible for him to have had a dilute gene, but it seems highly unlikely.
The only way to rule it out absolutely would be a DNA test, but it wouldn't seem worth the effort. It's probably just pretty dapples on a light-ish bay.

I wonder if timing plays a role here. She appears to be showing the effects of sun exposure as well. My dark brown mare looked dark purple when I bought her after being kept out of the sun for sale prep as a yearling, and later looked either blotchy brown in the summer like your filly or dark brown/black in the winter.
