Boarding in Kentucky

Postby JimP » Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:34 am

Hi Guys,

My mare got home from Kentucky late last night. Keith and the gang at
Whispering Oaks Farm in Paris Kentucky did a fantastic job with my mare.
She is in perfect condition and looks like a million bucks and in foal to boot. I sent them a nineteen year old broodmare out of the pasture and got back Marilyn Monroe. When I first glanced at her in the dark as they offloaded her I thought I was sent the wrong horse. I am now embarassed to put her back in with the other mares because she makes them look shabby.
I highly recommend Whispering Oaks Farm, Keith and his crew. Good job well done. If anyone needs Keith's number just drop me a line.

:D :D :D

Hi FOS,

"Marilyn" is in foal to Hap. Now just a few long months to see if we have a result.

Jim,
So, you were the "morning" shipper. My mare shipped out about 10 hours earlier, from the same farm. (We try to always ship during the day in winter and at night during the summer.)

Our mare and foal also looked fantastic, however since I have gotten to know Keith, I guess I somewhat expected them to look good. She and her foal came "home" with another couple mares and their foals from our other boarding farm... those looked spectacular also, but I had no doubt that they would... its why they are my primary (and when they got full, they are the one's who recommended Keith...).

I can tell you it was an extremely rough year for many boarding farms in Kentucky, Whispering Oaks included. They had to work twice as hard this year and incur significantly more expense, knowing their revenue would be about the same as in prior years. However, I think they did a remarkable job and came through with flying colors.

Glad you had a great experience. We did also. In fact, I've been enough impressed with them that I have chosen to have them sales prep a couple yearlings for me, in lieu of sending to a bigger, better known facility.

I am extremely difficult to please, well actually, my wife is difficult to please, however considering the absolutely unbelievable job she does with the horses here at our place, she has every right to be demanding. It is because of her that I guess I expect the horses coming back from Kentucky to look good... those guys continually remark on the condition of the horses we ship over and how hard they have to work to keep them looking that good. There is no doubt that pride does enter into it... and my wife will definitely challenge them.

Same here, Smart Devil stepped off the trailer cool as a cucumber, slick and dappled, AND IN FOAL. No crazy vet bills, no padded anything, and little nobody me and my little blue collar mare were always treated like I was his only customer. You can't put a price on the peace of mind, and the great feeling when you realize that you were treated that way because of one man's personal integrity, and not the $$$$ you had to spend.

Secretariat,

I think the normal day rate at Whispering Oaks is $20.00 a day with vet, worming, farrier work added. The vet bills are minimal. My mare was at the farm probably a 100 or more days. She is an older mare and wasn't cycling quite normal when I sent her so that took some time to get her going right. I also wanted her 60 days or more in foal when she was shipped home.

It's people like you all that make my brother, Allen, and I keep wanting to get up and meet the vet at 6:00 am each morning, and meet him again in the afternoon. Also, during foaling season, the nightwatch person is likely to ring the phone at any hour during the night. So, when we just read the kind postings on this site, we felt rewarded for the hard work and it makes of want to continue to improve our business. It means so much to us.

Thanks a lot!

Since you've already gotten rave reviews, you should post a link to your website (if you have one) and/or post your fees and location/contact info. People are ALWAYS looking for someone with good refs.
