R.I.P. Sugar Ray

Postby EO » Mon Aug 08, 2005 12:03 pm

He lost the battle this morning at 6:00 a.m. PDT. His mother bumped him and he fell down and whatever injuries he had apparently were made worse and he passed away. He joins his sister Bubbles who we lost to choke last December. It has been a tough time for him and for us and all who worked so hard to give him a chance to recover. I want to thank them and all of you who had Sugar Ray in your prayers. It just wasn't meant to be. His mom knew it was time, she hasn't called for him once and does not show any signs of depression at this time. I hope she continues to deal with it like she has. She is barren this year so she didn't have to go through all this turmoil packing a foal.

Again, Thanks so much.

EO, so sorry to hear the sad news.

Little Sugar Ray sounded like such a little fighter. May he RIP. This has been a very tough spring and summer on so many foals. Hope there will be better days ahead. My sincere sympathy to everyone there.

EO- I am so sorry.. I also just went through losing a baby, Its the hardest thing.. Sugar Ray was such a little fighter and he had so many people pulling for him... Its really a shame.
Again.. I am so sorry.

My mare also wasn't the slightest bit depressed. We picked her up at Michigan State University about 2 hours after we lost the filly. You would never have known she ever had the filly. I felt it was really odd at the time but she must have known her filly went to a better place...

Ok, now I am crying again for the both of us..

If you need anything PM me..

EO,

They are all precious...but some are just too precious for this world.

This little guy was so special and you did so much to help him with his obvious struggle and will to to survive. I believe he would have made it were it not for this last twist of fate. You were right to work so hard to save him Kathie! He wanted to stay...fate just wasn't in his corner.

We were blessed for a little while to witness his tremendous spirit.

I'm so glad my Big O is in your hands.

Take care...get some rest.

Soar with the angels, Sugar Ray :(

The lump in my throat just came back, and the tears are welling in my eyes again, after this news. Brings back sad memories of our troubles this spring, with a seven month aborter, and a colt mortally injured in a paddock accident. Thankfully the mares handled the losses well; it was apparently harder on us humans.

Here are pictures from the database on the colt Chase Scene who was lost on May 20th, and the colt Ghost Hunt, born earlier on that same day.

So sorry to hear the news. May the next one have both its sibling's fighting heart and better luck.

There is something so profound in the loss of a foal. All those many months of planning and praying wrapped up in a little bundle of hope. Godspeed Sugar Ray.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Sugar Ray. I'd just gotten it into my head that everything would be okay and then to read this I was just stunned and saddened. You just think about how fragile they are and it's amazing we're blessed with them at all.

Oh.... poor little guy. We can't always have happy endings, but it's always worth the fight. So sorry it didn't work out this time.

I am so very sorry EO. I think many of us really lived the highs and lows of Sugar Ray's struggles along with you, as we checked in for news - I know I did. This is the very saddest part of the horse business, but you did everything you possibly could, and that's what I hope you remember. Hope each day dawns a little brighter.
