To all in the hurricane path

Postby windham » Sun Aug 28, 2005 10:01 am

Good luck and we will keep you all in our thoughts/prayers and please let us know how you are when you can ... looks like this is going to be a rough one.

Amen!

Thanks, it is headed straight here. Hopefully it will have burned out some force between the Gulf and KY and just dump us a ton or two of rain which we really badly need.

I know some people in the path - one had to abandon her dog, pig, chickens and horses. No place to take them. She's a wreck.

Category 5, 175 mph winds. I wouldn't stay, either.

To all in the path, if you have animals that you're leaving behind (and by all means, try to take them if you can) PLEASE make sure that they have identification! If they survive the hurricane they will likely be picked-up by animal control, and if an owner can not be identified, well... let's just say that the shelters will be too crowded to hold all of the survivors for extended periods.
I've heard of horse farms spray painting their phone numbers on the horses/livestock during emergencies. Stick collars on your dogs, and always remember that the microchip is the most effective identification tool available (it won't get torn off, won't wash off, and any modern shelter worth its salt will have a device for identifying the chips and returning the animal to you).

Hopefully everyone is out of harms way including the animals.

I've also heard of people writing key information on heavy plastic ribbon and braiding it into mains and tails.

Here's praying everyone (people and animals) are safe

To anyone in Katrina's path, many, many prayers for your safety!

Wanted to include this discussion from the COTH forum - there are many generous individuals that are offering a 'safe haven' for those that may be effected including your animals.

This storm is going to be devastating, please seek safety!

I just talked with my friend in Gulfport. They have the house boarded up, but have decided to stay. 3 horses and only a 2 horse trailer. She said the hwys were totally clogged this afternoon when they debated on whether or not to leave. She knew if they got 2 out, they'd never be able to get back for the other one. It's a situation I can't even picture. She has halters on with tags and has opened the barn and cross gates, so they can decide where they want to be themselves.

My thoughts are with everyone in the path of Katrina. I hope you will evactuate if you can. If not, I wish you and your charges all the best in riding out the storm. I hope New Orleans survives, but things are sounding very grim.

Good luck also to those who lie in the path farther inland and farther north. I think the fury of this storm will be felt for many days to come.

Take care everyone,
Laurie

Same goes for me... hope everyone remains safe, people and animals alike... it's pushed the humidity and rain all the way up here to NH, so I can't imagine what it must be like on the coast right now... :(

You're all in my prayers... thinking of you all...

Not a lot of good news coming out of New orleans-80% of the city is under water and i really mean under water. Things are not good in that city at all. Total mess.

The roof of the FG clubouse has been ripped off and the track has some damage to the inside of the track.
