How about this mare for a broodmare?
http://www.pedigreequery.com/i+hear+that
She's at Mountaineer, needs to be gone by Friday, trainer wants $600 bucks but it's negotiable. She's been used hard and has or had a sesamoid fracture. Won over $100 grand.
For those who like the Mr. P and/or ND on top and the stamina mares on the bottom, what do you think of her?

Very interesting breeding. She was not great class, but was a winner of 10 races. I think the breeding is absolutely intiguing because there is so much Ribot in her line. Louis is right that you can't expect much but maybe a decent claimer, which is what she appeared to be. I would assume she ran at the bottom at the end.

There's a thread about her on The Chronicle of The Horse.
http://chronicleforums.com/groupee/foru ... /863203457
Here is some direct contact information:
Her asking price is $600 - definitely negotiable. Again, she needs a home BY THE WEEKEND. If you can help, please e-mail Rachael (who is trying to help place her) at or call 304-479-3253 and leave a message if she doesn't answer. Thanks!
Darn it. I cannot make the URL thingie work with my Firefox.

Okay, now it's time for y'all to teach me.
Her APR looks decent to me. Her dam had 7 foals, 6 to race and 6 to win. Farther back, she's from a female family with some stakes winners and placers, and a fair amount of money won, along with other females who are described as producers.
From a regional racing standpoint, what is not to like about the mare and her family for breeding? Tough stock, made money, and mares are designated as producers? Every racetrack needs the undercard horses, and every trainer doesn't train for big races. Look at the Smarty Jones connections history. I know llightning strikes those guys occasionally, but don't lots of racetrack folk stay happily racing claimers and allowance horses without realistically aiming for the lightning?
Teach me about the economics of racing at places like CT and Mountaineer.

Most people like to have more black type in their broodmares closer up. If this mares' dam had produced any stakes horses, she would be more "commercial." Sometimes I think that some people get so caught up in "black type" that they can't see the big picture. An example......last year, I called about a filly advertised on the internet (not mentioning any names). She had started 3 times and was unsound, her dam had started 3 or 4 times for a prominent trainer and owner, was stakes placed and then broke down. Ditto for the next dam. The were all unsound, by very prominent grade one sires and had about a dozen starts total for the three of them. Yet, she was high priced and sold the first day the ad came out. (or so I was told) I can't help but think that that filly will produce the very same. If you were breeding her to race the offspring for yourself, how could you justify the fact that they may all be unsound? If you are looking to produce a sound runner for yourself, there is not a thing wrong with this mare at Mountaineer If I were looking for just this type, I would not rule her out. The fact that she was rode hard and put up wet many times and held up this long over- rides the "no blacktype" in my mind. For those who worship the "good old mares" in the pedigrees...what is not to like about a mare who has Source Sucree, Flower Bed, Vacrancy and My Dear Girl? I know that most people will say that this mare would only produce a mediocre claimer at best......but....like you said, if That is where you are happy..........
If, someone does make that trip to WVA.,.....there is another mare there that was posted under The for sale section on this site.....Hansel mare....$850.

Broodmare prospect
I have way better mares than this available for under $1K, currently have two daughters of Thesixthofmay (dam of May Gator who is now G3 stakes placed winner of nearly half a mil)... check out Brass Monkey and World Cruiser, although I may keep World Cruiser to breed to Rocking Trick. Well hell I may keep Brass Monkey for Bad Boy Atta...
These girls are sort of "close to home" in that I have had others from this family and they have intelligence, temperament, lovely conformation, etc. If Thesixthofmay could get May Gator from the likes of Green Alligator, what could World Cruiser get with Rocking Trick?
These girls are already in Ky and available for investors to prep for the '06 year.

I like her for the absence of ND & Mr. P in her family. From a purely sport horse aspect (and that I have two Ribot line horses of my own) I prefer to see Royal Charger, Turn To and Ribot, which she has in quantities.
Distance, grass, late developing and jumping ability run in those lines. As a race horse, she earned her way at a job her background isn't especially suited for. If her conformation warrants breeding, I think she'd do well since she's about as much of an outcross to Mid Atlantic studs as you could possibly find.

Good luck with Blue Marlin -- it is a really nice family. I don't have race records for Blue Marlin, Brass Monkey or World Cruiser but they are all try-hard horses from this line. And being half sis to a G3 SP mare with nearly half a mil in earnings... actually Thesixthofmay looks like dam of 6, 5 to race, nearly all winners... well there is an '04 filly, USS Spencer, by Unreal Zeal, but is just a yearling.

Still trying to learn.
Would someone mind posting Thesixthofmay's APR?
Just looking at the pedigrees, and with an admitted bias against Mr.P, I'm baffled at why you say her family is any more worth breeding than the Mountaineer mare.
I'm not being snarky; I truly want to understand. My old guy is by Mount Hagen by Bold Bidder. One of Mount Hagen's sons won a couple of really important Gr. 1 stakes in England or Ireland. None of his other sons or daughters did diddly squat that I can discover. His one big winner was like a lightning strike. Seems sort of like winning a genetic lottery. Wouldn't a single hit from the dam be the equivalent?
Actually, I've just spent some time googling Mount Hagen. He won quite a bit himself, was shuttled before shuttling was popular, and has been a sort of useful broodmare sire. Nothing spectacular, though, except Dickens Hill.
BTW, the Mountaineer mare has been bought by a rescue type, so her genes will be out of the TB gene pool. Personally, I think that's too bad, just from a soundness point of view.
