Total Bloodbath

Postby madelyn » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:35 pm

No matter what the media reports, Fasig-Tipton here, yearling sale, was a complete bloodbath for the breeders.

I bought four perfectly straight, gorgeous, well-bred fillies and colts for a total of $4k and could have had many more. At $1k a pop. You can't raise and register them for that.

Madelyn, best of luck with your new kids.

That was sad--all the RNAs and yearlings sold for a pittance.

Madelyn, I love the 1st colt that you purchased. My parents had Animosity (3rd dam) when I was too young to know better and I would ride the stallion (bareback) in the pasture with her. And I am a fan of Skip Trial....nice breeding on him. Good luck with all 4 !

Madelyn, I saw in the results that you'd been buying. Best of luck with your purchases!

The F-T Oct. sale has always been weak compared to the ones that precede it. But it's a shame for the breeders who find themselves selling way below cost. I would like to think that sales like this one will lead to fewer foals being produced next year but it probably won't.

Thanks... I am heading over in a couple of hours to pick them all up.. Gerry, the first colt is the most gorgeous one of the lot. Tall, perfect... I, too, was a big fan of Skip Away. I will take pics .. might even get the pics on my website! Regarding the horrendous oversupply, there were dams in that catalog that flat had no business in a breeding shed trying to produce a racehorse. You would think that the prices would deliver the message... but no, the media will probably report this sale as the "best one ever".

That makes a total now of six yearlings I will have going in to training. I have some pals to partner with... my first foray into this...

NAMES?? Oh Gawd... I hadn't even thought! I still haven't named the Chester House filly. Dang, I should have bought the already named ones...

Actually, I have a superstition about that and steer clear of the "already named" ones. My thought is that if the breeder named the baby, they planned to own and race it and something happened (chips, OCD's, apparent intractability/stupidity, etc.) to make them change their mind and sell it instead.

The clock is on. I have until the end of the year to name them all... gosh. I was not creative with my son, he has his grandfathers' first names...

Let's see

Lady of Note? (Well Noted x Marble Lady)
Suggestions anyone?

Sorry Madelyn,

Didnt mean to panic you. I am awful with names but I name all my babies before I sell them so that I can track them in my virtual stable easier.

Strawberry... I have no idea why, I have no idea how, and I certainly cannot correlate your post with anything useful... but, THANKS FOR THE SMILE!

Perhaps it is because my 4 yr. old and I agree with you... "Monkey", very well may be the best word in the world.

Can you hear the race call?... Its Monkey Love at the wire...

Glad I could make you smile :)
Yes, monkey is the best word, simply because monkeys are so entertaining. I saw a monkey picking winning football teams on CNN Sunday (yeah, guess it was a slow news day), and when the monkey picked wrong one of the sportscasters asked, "What was he thinking??" The other replied, "Probably about Monkey Love."
Just seeing the monkey in his diaper and overalls made my day. Having a horse named Monkey Love would make my day, too.

Hi Madelyn How about Wee Rock or Misstone for the Well Noted. I have one due in late Jan. early Feb. by him. I saw the other two Well Noted's when they were babies. How does yours look?

The Well Noted filly is absolutely gorgeous with a deep hip and very good bone. She is also very well-natured.
