Owner of Record?

Postby AJ » Wed Nov 02, 2005 8:07 am

How do I find the owner of record for my thoroughbreds? When I find it, how do I change it?

Call the JC or fill out the online transfer form...that should do it.

Okay... where do I find the online transfer form?

When I do this, should this be proof of ownership? This particular horse was given to me but it never crossed my mind to get a bill of sale.

https://www.equineline.com/Registry

I think this will work...I've changed registrations on our horses this way.
Oh wait...that was as current listed owner...so it's possible that the previous owner didn't give the papers for a reason and you might want to ask for them if you see no cause for that. The best bet really is to call the Jockey Club and get their help.

Thanks, I'll check that out. The problem is, this horse has gone through several owners in the last few months (very neglectful homes). I got him to save him from going to slaughter. I don't know who the previous owners were and I doubt they have the papers. The last owner wouldn't even give me vet records let alone a bill of sale. :x

Okay, I got it. Added the registration to my account. I just have to wait like 3 days for approval. Thanks for your help!

They won't approve me because I'm not actively involved as a race owner or trainer. :(

AJ that can't be true. I got a login/password when all I had was a yearling filly. You own a Thoroughbred. That's all you need. Give them a call.

I never heard that...I had the account long before I had any registrations in my own name. And at any rate the Jockey Club is about the Breed of the horse...not its discipline. Lots of show TBs are JC registered and have never raced.

I have the username and stuff... I just tried to add the interactive registry to my account capabilities so I can do something about the owner of record situation. I got this email:
Your name and address do not appear in our database of Thoroughbred owners and
breeders. If you have transacted business with the registry during the past six
years under a different name and/or address, please provide us with that
information. Registry.jockeyclub.com is intended solely and exclusively to

AJ, call the Jockey Club. Sometimes those program's get really quirky.

We have an account with the Jockey Club. We have three thoroughbred's in our broodmare band. And we raise quarterhorses.

If I recall correctly, I had to do a paper transfer for the first TB I bought. After that, they allowed me to do online transfers. I think you can contact the AJC to have them send you a hardcopy of the transfer form. Once it's completed, returned and processed you'll be able to do the online transfers as long as you're an active owner.
