General Question for breeding

Postby clafairy » Thu Dec 08, 2005 2:31 pm

I have seen alot on Fescue grass since I had my mare bred and I wonder how serious is this problem, how easy/expensive/effective is it to get grass tested for endophytes?

Can anyone tell me? Many thanks!

Hello,
I have no experience with Fescue myself, but from what I've picked up, the mare won't produce a bag and it interfers with milk production. Also I think it has some effect on the placenta and is attributed to red bag deliveries. If you log onto equine-reproduction. com and post your question they will give you the whole low down. Anything you want to know about mares and foaling, it's there!
As far as getting your grass tested, call colleges that have an agri department and they will help you. I don't think it costs too much.
