Barbaro is the better horse but is Bluegrass Cat worth more as a stallion? If Barbaro is a better turf horse I think he would do well in Europe. He sure runs well fresh but will he bounce back in two weeks to win the Preakness? He looked much the best coming down the stretch and to me it looked like they used Showing Up as a rabbit and to prevent Sunriver from getting in the race. I think Brother Derek may bounce back to win the Preakness. It is ashamed they did not save Showing Up for the Preakness to have a fresh horse. If I were them I would aim for the Triple Crown, and the Virginia Derby. If it were me I would pick his races and try to keep him undefeated. Wouldn't it be something to see him win Champion Turf horse,Champion Three Year Old,and Horse of The Year. Horse racing desperately needs a star to carry the sport since Smarty Jones retired early. The sport needs to have more than just the Triple Crown to carry the sport and the last two years the people's horse retired early in Afleet Alex and Smarty Jones. Hopefully since he does not have the most popular of pedigrees to be a sire hopefully he goes on to race in the fall. Remember Secretariat ran on grass and dirt and Barbaro is no Secretariat but he is a very multi-talented horse who can bring alot to the sport. Bluegrass Cat on the other hand could retire today and be sold for alot of money as a stallion.

How much is Bluegrass Cat worth as a stallion?

Bluegrass Cat's value as a stallion is sort of a mute point since he's owned by Winstar and their whole plan is to make him the hot young star of their stallion roster. Its just a matter of setting the fee and one has to remember there are a lot of Storm Cat sons out their for him to compete with. If Lion Heart can get $30,000 (right?), I can see Bluegrass Cat easily commanding the same; however, not to negate BC's effort but he got an ideal trip in the Derby (way to go Ramon) and his jockey basically said they could go around again and Bluegrass Cat still would not have gotten any closer. I did find it surprising that Pletcher said he was skipping the Preakness (most likely) and pointing the horse for the Belmont. Funny more distance does not seem to be what that horse needs.

eeeeeeeh, he's worth as much as any of a 100 other Storm Cats with similar pedigrees and race records.
I was really hoping once the Derby'd been run, this thing would fade into obscurity and take his over-inflated hype with him.
Forget about Storm Cat, see his dam line. AP Indy, Mr P Northern Dancer, Buckpasser are his first four broodmare sires. His brother was also a good racehorse. By a sire of sires, out of the great La Troienne line. A good juvenile and now 2nd in the Derby. He is worth a minimum 10 million today!!! Don't even start comparing him to other runners up in the Derby.
