Green Monkey: HOLLYWOOD.. HERE I COME!!!

That's right folks... TGM will be making his next start if not starts against the piss poor fields that is the SoCal racing colony.

Pletcher, this is a stroke of freakin genius. I have to hand it to you. He will probably win a damn grade 1 out there, never race outside of SoCal again and stand for 200k in 2 years.

Are you sure he's not taking him out to Los Alamitos for the next QH meet?

Maybe he's going to Alberquerque....Unbridled's Song and Officer foals won stakes there in 2006-7. The track is very kind to offspring of TM stallions.

You'll be eating the crap that comes out of your mouth when California trained horses win their usual two or three Breeders Cup races.

lol, don't get mad at me. A freakin 80K claimer came and won the most prestigious race in the summer west of the Mississippi.

Half the people on this forum couldn't tell me who won the Del mar Furity.

and I bet 80% of you couldn't tell me who won the Del mar Debutante without going to Google.

i just call it like i see it. I have nothing against the horses.. don't take it so darn personal. but they are on a different playing field. just like a Mountaineer horse that ships in to say, Thistledowns.. I'm not trashing the Thistledowns horses when I bet the Mountineer shipper (and win)... they run at a higher level.. nothing more nothing less

A thought just popped into my head.

People that have worked and/or raced on the new Cali surfaces have written how horses are getting back end problems from them. TGM has had back end problems since last year - how does racing on the Synthetics figure to keep him sound? :?

But Roke, the horses that train on synthetics are running lights out when switched back to conventional dirt. I wouldn't be throuwing out the west coast group because they train over recycled garbage.

no, it has nothing to do with the horse racing's version of the save the earth campaign.. the SoCal colony has been lacking well before poly was even thought about

The biggest problem (IMO) is that horses that aren't running well on the new stuff are probably dirt horses...and those running well over them probably aren't. Thus, Cali probably won't be sending over their best dirt horses this year because they're running poorly - they'll send over the synthetic lovers that have/are doing well.

Is In Summation a viable contender in the BC Sprint? C'mon, now!

that's true.... but even last year.... the SoCal dirt horses just weren't a force to be reckoned with.

Next yea ris going to be one of the best years for SoCal racing in a long long time. Because the BC races are going to be at Oak Tree, people are going to be trying to get a prep in over the track. you should see some of everyone running at Oak Tree and Hollywood Park. I would imagine the SA Handicap and the Gold Cup will be two of the best races of the year

and just to prove the incompetence of the Del Mar clan once more.. they can't capitalize on this because they had ot go be the black sheep. everyone else has the same track surface, except they race on play-doh

For all those bemoaning the quality of California racing, I point to Hystericalady. Hasn't been able to win in CA this year, but has shipped to win the Humana Distaff and the Molly Pitcher, and will probably be one of the favorites for the Beldame next weekend. And she got outfinished in CA twice by Nashoba's Key and once by Balance. Yeah, those two fillies can't run with worth a lick, either.

The point is that Cali's best dirt horses may not like the new surfaces, and as such, have had poor seasons and won't be sent to Monmouth to compete. On the flip side, the so-so dirt horses that have taken to the new surfaces (like In Summation, Student Council, and AP Xcellent) will be sent to Monmouth and will get their heads handed to them.

There are exceptions when a good horse will run on anything (Asi Siempre, as an example). But, how many of them are there?
