Swift Attraction

Postby Swaps1955 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:40 pm

Does anyone know what happened to this horse? I emailed the track several times after he pulled up and was vanned off. I haven't seen anything on him on websites or in stallion registers. Gorgeous (but probably unsound) breeding.

He ended up not making. I was there at his birth and I'm still reeling from the fact he's gone.

Gold Trader would have been. She's got a Giant's Causeway yearling which should be one to watch.

I agree about Gold Trader. What a nice horse he appeared to be in his short life. So sorry, Lights On. How difficult to be with such a nice horse and have such an unpleasant demise.

Lights on, its shammy from TBC and finalturn, i just wanted to say i am so sorry for your loss. His death hurt me as well, i saw him run in NY- he was gorgeous, i believe jose espinoza was his jock. Poor horse, i know how it hurts.... they are so precious

Gold Trader's death hit me like a ton of brickst. I nightwatched him while he was on layup at Overbrook for months when he was two and he was such a cool horse. He'd nicker when I came back into the barn at the end up of the night. I'd go out to look at him when he was turned out and he'd ignore me but the second I turned to check the other colts he'd be at the fence.I brought him inside one night during a thunderstorm and I was like "I'm leading in a future star." That's what I thought he'd be at least. I bought his Golden State Mile win photo and I keep a photo my stepmother took of him on my desk.

Swift Attraction was born just days after he died and I was so excited, I thought he'd be as good as his brother.

How did these two die? What was the particular injury involved? Was there a particular conformational weakness involved?

I'm somewhat concerned as I'm breeding one with similar bloodlines (Storm Cat - Seattle Slew - Mr. Prospector - Square Angel). The little guy is due any day now.

Thanks

As far as I know, both broke down during a race. I really loved Gold Trader, too. I thought he was a future star. What a lovely story about him, Lights On. I carry a bit of each of those horses in my heart when I am at the races. So sorry for your loss of each of them.

I know Gold Trader broke his canon bone and was unable to be saved because he put up a fight during the 2001 San Felipe. Swift Attraction broke down in an allowance at Keeneland at was vanned off. I'm glad I was out and missed it because I would have been watching on TVG.

You probably know that she's got a 3 year old colt named Big Top Cat (Storm Cat) who's working out at Santa Anita. Any remembrances about him? He's on my VS. I loved Golden Attraction. Wish they'd try to get a little more soundness into her offspring, however.

Nope I never met him, only his older siblings: Marquee Attraction, Star Attraction, Gold Trader and Swift Attraction. Marquee Attraction was a sweetheart, I really like her attitude but she didn't do anything as a racehorse. I knew Star Attraction for a few months before she shipped out for basic training. She wasn't too friendly, very pretty though. I'd love to see what the Giant's Causeway yearling looks like. I used to say Gold Trader was the perfect cross between Storm Cat and Golden Attraction. He looked a lot like Storm Cat only with Golden Attraction's coloring. His head was very similar to Storm Cat's.

Big Top Cat--three year old (unraced, I believe) full brother to Swift Attraction and Gold Trader --goes on Saturday at Santa Anita. I wish him well and hope he stays sound. It's a beautiful family.

Big Top Cat has had at least one race and I believe it was at Saratoga. He led until the top of the stretch and faded big time.

You're right. He has started at both Saratoga & Churchill (November). Same style: shoots to the front and lasts 'til about the three-sixteenths. I was hoping for more. Maybe a breathing or distance problem, although he should be able to go 6 furlongs. An interesting Quarter Horse cross possibility.
