According to the B-H article, it sounds quite serious :( :

“He has had multiple colic surgeries the last month and now has laminitis,” Iavarone said. “All we’re worried about is making sure he gets the best treatment and comes through all this.”

Is there any update on Kip Deville?

I haven't heard anything - and in my recent B-H they said as of Nov 16 there were no updates available. IEAH's site hasn't had anything either.

Poor guy. I didn't know he developed laminitis. :( I hope he pulls through somehow.

Very grim prospect at the moment. :(
Our prayers to the horse & his connections.
Fingers crossed

The Daily Racing Form has reported that the coffin bone in his left fore has completely rotated, and that both front feet are laminitic. They're giving him only a 20% chance to live. :( link.

Isn't that essentially what happened to Barbaro? One foot went, and then the other?

Yes, Toral, that's pretty much how it was with Barbaro. Not a good outlook. Poor Kip.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but would laminitis improve if one could seemingly reduce the amount of weight on the hooves? I am thinking more of a sling that hoists a horse into something like New Bolton's recovery pool, where the horse essentially rests in a raft with built in leg extensions. Or even in a much shallower pool that allows the hooves to be on the ground (in their rubber leg extensions) and the water just deep enough to reduce the psi on the feet? (Yeah, I know, a healthy hoof depends on the horse shifting weight from one foot to another, but does it have to be the full weight?)

Meanwhile, sending good thoughts and prayers for Kip.
