Sucks, but not surprised. She only put in her 2nd breeze last week, 4f in 50 and change while Zen has been working regularly since I think December. I think it might be possible to do a prep then the Apple Blossom, but they'd be pushing it. If she'd been in regular serious training since say January, I'd say no problem - don't really think it's ducking though.

I think the 3 race series is an interesting concept if they could get everything to line up. I doubt he would skip those races, especially since he had a hand in the whole thing. Bad for the ego and the public image, ya know? lol

Well, Stud, I have been racing for 30 years, and I understand it, and to say that you can't get a horse rested and ready in 8 months is ridiculous.

There is no way that R.A. could be where she needed to be fitness wise in the amount of time he has to get her ready , she just went a slow half in 52 10 days ago. In order to be race fit to meet the BCC champion she would need at least two works at each distance up to and including a mile in order to be able to compete at the level that they would be asking her to. This isnt get ready to run at Penn National in an allowance , this is the big time and you better have your horse ready and as fit as it can be or as they have chose just stay home.

Will she run now? They changed the date, supposedly, to a week later, so I wonder if they will run her now?

From what I read, both owners agreed to run!

"The other Z" swooped her on the turn then outdueled RA down the lane. Nice effort from Shireffs 2nd string to beat the HOY. I have to say, RA was game down the lane, tried to come back on again from the rail. Hope she came back ok.

If she comes out of the race OK, she will go. My god people, SHE WAS SHORT. Is this really a surprise. I think this could be a great training prep for her and hopefully she gets a lot from it. She could be very dangerous in the AB if this is so.

She was short. Everybody thought she was short. The owner and the trainer both alluded to it in the pre-race interviews.

It also looked like Calvin had a very tight hold on her through the first half. That can take a great deal out of horse that has grabbed the bit.

LADY'S SECRET and 3 other horses were recognized by HRTV after today's race as losing their first starts after being voted HOY. The RA connections have something to prove now. I think they'll move forward to the Apple Blossom.

Personally, I don't think it will prove much. Z and RA are so different in running styles. Z certainly scared her connections with that bump and jump to the rail. I thought for sure there would be an inquiry, but the other horse involved was definitely fading though it appeared she was taken up.

Wow, you've got to give it to David Flores. He rode a great tactical race. If I owned a "hot" filly, I definitely be thinking the Sherriff's barn.

From the Bloodhorse article JJ stated:

"The fans have spoken," Jackson said. "The media has spoken. Everyone wants to see Rachel race against Zenyatta, including me. In fact, I want it to happen several times this year.

and Jerry Moss responded:

``I have no idea what he's even talking about. Which three races? And where? And when?''
and.."It's a shame they are not going to show up for that race,'' Moss said in a telephone interview with AP. "In the meantime, there's some plan here, to run in three races, to which we're supposed to respond to, and we haven't even been consulted about it. So, I don't know what I'm supposed to say.''

Jess Jackson is nothing but a chickensh*t. He is spinning and spinning and spinning trying to invent any excuse or scenario he can in order to duck Z but the bottom line is he's scared he will get beat and doesn't have the balls to lay his filly on the line. RA could train for another six months and never beat Zenyatta.

I wish I'd known before Thurs or Fri that Asmussen was so terrible with horses coming off a layoff so I could've mentally prepared more. As soon as I heard that, and the wishy washy comments about her fitness before the race, I started getting nervous. How is that even possible that he can't even just be so-so with layoffs? Isn't he much better with first timers? What's with the discrepancy?

I realize they figured RA's 75-80% fitness is better than most horses' 100%, but would it kill them to get her closer to 90%? Given how well Zenyatta's doing right now, you can't have that much ground to make up with your form, can you? I love how some folks are 'told you so'ing on a short horse who's clearly not on form. Last season was phenomenal, this doesn't diminish that. I can only hope we see her back to where she was or better. The scary thing is that Z's obviously moving her bar even higher. If RA doesn't get back on track, at least Z's will give us a good show this year, but I'll still be sad thinking of what could've been. Gonna go back to crossing my fingers and hoping Jess can lose Rachel to another owner in a card game or something.

Sherriffs and Asmussen could not be any different when it comes to layoffs

Sherriffs likes to train up to a race and if he is in a race, first time or not, he's live.

dont' even bother looking at the length of a layoff when it comes to john sherriffs. they are ready.

Assumssen on the other hand, the 2nd and even more the third time is when they strike. he will usually with claimers take a horse and move them up and let them race two races he knows he can't win in then drop and be dead fit and ready to go.

hi Shammy Davis

If I'm to believe both Asmussen and Borel, clearly they BOTH thought she was ready to win.

Fact is...before the race, jockey Calvin Borel said "She wouldn't be running if Steve didn't have her ready."

Fact is...Calvin also stated before the race we'll "let her do her thing and win easy, hands down you know, and not gut her too much." Yes, Calvin basically announced, she'll win easy.

Fact is also...immediately after the race Asmussen himself stated "If I thought she'd get beat I wouldn't have run her today." The words speak volumes.

As for Jess Jackson, unfortunately...he seems to have become little more than a source of blather.
