flash point

Postby bdw0617 » Fri Apr 01, 2011 9:06 am

i am allllllll over flash point. you will get 5 to 1 because people have questions about his ability to go a route of ground. he will sit off the speed as he has the outside post, he gets to sit out and let THAS and solddat battle it out again, and will go by and win by 5.

Flashpoint's only off the pace running was done over the weeds. I think if they go this route they won't necessarily strangle him out of the race, but moreover there are those running with this style who can come a ton and catch him in his new improved strategery.

Dialed In, to win.

I question flashpoint's ability to go a route of ground. With that being said I will exacta box Stay Thirsty and Dialed In. Tri Bx add To Honor and Serve.

the only horse in this field I don't think can get a rote of ground is diailed in. people always assume closers can run further. running style has no indication on how far a horse can run.

I just can't believe how many colts are going into these big derby preps off a few starts and sprints. Twenty years ago I would have given Flashpoint or The Factor no shot. Today he's a serious contender. I still think they need more seasoning.

Of course they need more races. They're still very green. Throwing them into a Kentucky Derby field with as many as 19 other mostly very green horses seems a certain formula for disaster. It is a wonder that we have not had a catastrophic collision with horses and riders going down.

If they raced more, then some people would know their horses belonged in other races they had a chance of winning. Too many start because they have the earnings, not because they have displayed a reason to be there in the last 3 months.

flashpoint is a contender because Dutrow is the best trainer in the field. by the same reasoning you throw out Soldat being trained by Kiaran (why do more with a horse when less will do) McGlauglin, although Soldat may be enough horse to overcome his trainer for one more race. I go with Honor and Serve at this point.

Likely Soldat is the best three year old in training right now - he possesses the class and he is in condition to prove it. It'll be interesting to see how Mo' does in the Wood. If Mo' runs off with it in the Wood he is set to peak in the Derby whereas Soldat may peak in the Florida Derby. If Soldat gets an easy Florida Derby, call em' equal, w/the nod to Soldat because of better conditioning.

Interesting the workouts for To Honor and Serve. They don't demonstrate he is in this one to win it. As Mott said the best horse doesn't always win the Derby it is the horse that peaks on the day of the race. It looks like Mott is looking down the road with To Honor and Serve, doesn't look like he'll have THAS run his best here - maybe next one.

None of this matters is it rains buckets on Derby Day! Only one horse has run on a muddy track, good track, firm track, yielding track, sloppy track and a fast track - that horse is Soldat. If he gets an off track come the big dance, he should have the advantage.

if it rains on derby day I am running pot the window and unloading on solddat

i respect your opinion because you put thought into it. We just disagree. I'm not high on anything going 2 turns in florida outside of flashpoint. he just looks like a freak of nature.

If you are going to slate a guy at least have the decency to spell his name right.

Kiaran McLaughlin.

He is a fabulous trainer, his record speaks for itself.

Although I agree that the closers' running style is no more correlated or indicative of one's ability to compete over a route of ground as say the dead frontrunner, the first part of your statement is odd to say the least.

Mineshaft, AP Indy, and Slew, out of a Storm Cat mare that goes back to Blushing Groom. In fact DI's may be the second strongest pedigree of the race behind THAS. And there's certainly nothing in the colt's 3 race career that can suggest otherwise. So it doesn't show up in the PPs, and it doesn't show itself on paper. I don't know where else you could glean such an opinion.

look at mineshaft's progeny. Everyone always assumes they want more ground and they never do. Cool Coal Man. Fly Down. Bonnie Blue Flag. Coal Play. Discreetly Mine.

Dialed IN fits that exact mode. A horse that on paper should want more ground but when you run him 2 turns, they hit a wall (his last race). Everyone is assuming his last race he just wasn't cranked up. I'm saying, he just hit a wall, just like most mineshafts do when going a route of ground. His best race, will always be a 1 turn 7F-8F type race. That's what they do, that's what they proven they want to do. And at 2 to 1, probably closering to 7/2 come post time, eh's going to have to prove to me that he can actually win going that far.

considering that, i don't see anything odd at all about the statement.

I just find it amusing, how dailed in wins a 1 mile holy bull, in a race where every other horse was staggering, then goes 9F and cannot beat a hand me down allowance horse, then flash point runs every horse off his feet in a 7F grade 2 running a 102 beyer, yet everyone KNOWS dialed in can get a route of ground and everyone KNOWS that flash point can't.

black n beauty finished 5th to dialed in in the holy bull, not too far back. Black n beauty couldn't handle the Hutchinson pace and got pulled up.

Seems like this Mineshaft is an exception to your rule.

How about Shackleford with a monster race?

Credit for having an opinion but you were dead wrong on Dialed In. Jury is out for me on Flashpoint going two turns against top company.
