This caused an owner with at least four horses to move his horses from the trainer that didn't recognize the hoof problem to the trainer with the high percentage of winners. One of these horses ran last night at Northlands Park ran a big race at long odds, finishing 2nd and paying $9.20 to place.

It drives me nuts watching the badly shod horses walk in the paddock at NP. It seems that every second horse needs to be reshod and having watched a number of the farriers put shoes on I know why.

Fair enough, and I would agree that 1 hour is not sufficient unless they were looking for something very specific.

Bar None Ranches and Westana Ranches in Alberta both have HBO's but their trainers don't seem to be doing as well as Mr. Meyaard

Yes, he upset in the stakes race, but he lost all the others that he ran in. His % is still a respectable ~45%, but has steadily declined. If you take out the first 6 weeks of the season when he was hitting at 85%, when competing primarily against less than fit horses, his actual % is just over 30% which is very good but not superhuman.

I watched the race. The track has had a huge speed bias all week with no horses able to close. His horse came out of the clouds and closed from last to first .........UNBELIEVABLE.

Guy is still doing pretty good.this year 64% in the money and 27% wins not bad at all...

I was very interested to see how this magic man would make out at Woodbine this year. Woodbine gave him a bunch of stalls and expected big things... looks like he packed up and went home to Alberta after only 4 months. Started 21 horses and only won a single race, a far cry from his usual percentages.

His percentage outside Alberta was never particularly good, Woodbine was no different. Nothing magical about him even in Alberta, just easier competition.

BINGO!! When I went to MI in the summers, with my low end Chicago stock, I ran 24% win and 67% in the money. When in CHicago I averaged 10-12%, did hit 15% at Arlington one summer, but the owners gave me free rein to pick races and I had good stock that year. Way it goes in this game!

I note that Jim Meyaard is no longer training, at least "officially" and his spouse Amber Meyaard has taken up training duties at NP. She seems to be doing rather well sitting just around the 51% mark - not bad for a first year trainer.
