breeders cup coverage sucks again
Oye...I am trying to tolerate the babbling heads again, but with the echo effect of the announcer overtop of the bickering.....I may have to scrap this year. First time ever, since the races began. What the hell is wrong with you people? Has nobody noticed in the first two post parades, that both audio tracks are running on top of each other? Send the panel home, point the cameras at the horses, and again, remember that it is the BREEDERS cup. Could you squeeze in a mention of sire and dam with each entry. You people are pitiful. There is no need to see these babblers, but the horses....uh, let me think..... yes.

I think we don't realize how much WE take horse racing for granted and how vested emotionally we are in the races where we put up with a lot of crap.
this year, becuase of my business, i'm not as invested in racing. but i'm not missing the breeders cup, and i will start paying attention again seriously like i always do around opening day santa anita. but this cycle year ended today and i haven't really been as into it as i usually am
anyway my point being, i tuned into today and it was hard.
first of all, it's painfully boring. do something. what i dont' know. maybe schedule other races at belmont / calder / fair grounds at this time to have something for fans to do during the 30 mintues between races.
I mean, 30 FREAKING MINUTES. what the hell guys?
and it's not like, they are even doing ground breaking analysis between the races. I could probably tolerate HRTV style of horse racing analysis of race coverage between races.
but no. 30 minutes of Ken and Sarah Ramsey fluff pieces, 30 minutes of babbling about how awesome Gary Stevens is, who cares.
Then the post parade starts, I mean, fora horse player, I don't give a shit who the owner of a horse is. For the owners that matter.. okay all owners matter but for the owners ic are about i cant ell that by looking at the silks. But I do give a shit who the sire and the dam is, and they aren't on the screen. that's like common sense stuff, if you're running on turf It would be nice to know who's by kittens joy and who isn't.
I was not happy with the coverage either. I don't even understand the point of Mike B and Bob anymore they don't add any thing of value whatsoever.

I gave up and recorded it and ffw'd to he races. Sad that such a fantastic couple of days at the races are covered so badly. Better to check the Blood Horse program and replays. It could be a great couple of days to capture new fans, but I defy any newbie getting hooked by this dog and pony show. I watch a lot of Woodbine coverage, and they manage to do a great job showing the horses, basic pedigrees, pre-race PP's etc. It can be done well.

oh and i didn't even get to my biggest rant
seriously 14 races. it's too many.
I don't care about the breeders cup gray and/or roan California and NY only juvenille filly sprint
seriously, breeders Juvenille sprint, juve filly turf, male turf, marathon and the filly sprint can all just go away right now. they are a waste of time
tak ethe rest of them, and make it one really good kick ass day of racing.

Couldn't agree with you more, terribly boring. I think maybe it has to do with those three talking heads and their inability to communicate any excitement about the sport.

I am ashamed to say that I never even watched it as I was hauling horses between tracks and realised that every day is my own Breeder's Cup. Of course I am a pedigree enthusiast but the last time I was excited was the 2006 edition at Churchill, Invasor and Street Sense, Ouija Board, now that was fun. Santa Anita is so packaged like a holiday in the Bahamas, Churchilll is all about the horse......THE HORSE. Maybe I am obsolescent or unconscious but now with youtube I can watch replays...........pitiful isn't it?
