hello all

I can only hope that Barbaro will overcome the life threatening hand he's been dealt.

What an unforgiving...rip-your heart-out...gut wrenching game this can be...

...and what grand & noble beings, and incredible equine athletes we are drawn to...among them Barbaro.

Respectfully

It is very sad for the horse what happend, not for the owners, they should not race him, on a surface that is not supply him, because of his motions.
But maybe there is another explanation so in that case the above is not making any sense
What I wrote before after his derby win, sent him to europe for the arc, but that is all to late now.
Hope for the horse that he will be recovering.
Just my humble opinion.

I'm glad there's some positive news going around now; it's been a miserable night for me and for everyone else here, I'm sure. I wonder when we might hear something. Are they still planning on doing surgery today or are they wanting to wait now?

I feel like I've been chewed all up and spit out. And then had lots of other unspeakable things done to me after that.

I agree wholeheartedly...
Keeping my fingers crossed today... hope we hear something... :(

Yeah, it was a rough time last night. You wake up in the morning hoping that it was a bad dream but it wasn't.

The focus is on Barbaro's surgery and his recovery from it. Stud fees be darned right now.

It was sickly ironic when the Three Chimneys commercial aired which had Dynaformer writing to his son and saying something about retirement.

I won't be watching the Belmont this year. It's not because I fear another horse breaking down, it's because it doesn't matter.

I called New Bolton, hoping to get a peek of him, but they won't accept visitors (for the time being) and I don't know anyone there.

So, we wait.

And pray, that this warrior horse comes through this to live out his life in comfort and respect. If that not be in the "plans"...please let him go peacefully in his sleep.

Amen

Like most others on here I had a rough night last night. As some of you know my Wife & I have just begun to breed thoroughbreds and this hit particularly hard even though we've seen this several times before. Actually got to thinking to myself..." what the hell are we doing breeding to race ". Wow ; thought I was sort of a tough guy but this breaks my heart.
Need lot's of positive news today out of New Bolton !!!
Bring 'em back tired ; but bring 'em back sound !

Barbaro Pulled Up

Postby Terlingua » Sun May 21, 2006 7:00 am

I've just read the article on the Bloodhorse site and have a couple of questions. What happens if they get in there and find the bone below in many, many pieces -- the example of as many as 500 was given? Do they only determine the state of the blood supply once they're in surgery, or does the fact they've decided to do surgery mean they've determined its adequate? I was also glad to hear that, although tranquilized, he seems to be taking it fairly calmly because, like someone earlier on here, I keep thinking of Ruffian.

Thoughts on yesterday

Postby Denise » Sun May 21, 2006 7:02 am

I've been reading many message boards this morning with a very heavy heart. Yesterday was possibly one of the worst days I can recall for our sport, except for my birthday in 1975. Ruffian.
Barbaro's at the very best facility possible for the surgery and his recuperation. Let's hope and pray for his full recovery.

Yes very sad.

Mill Reef broke his leg on the gallop, and he becasue one of our most important stallions.

Here's hoping the same for him

Realistically, the determining factor of the complete extent of the injury won't be known until the medical professionals are able to open the wound site. At that time, I'm sure careful decisions will need to be made. We can only pray that the outcome will be optimistic and in favor of Barbaro's future. Until surgery today, nobody will know....

Here's a good link to an interview with his trainer last night after Barbaro's arrival to New Bolten Center-
