Benchmark worked his way up from being free to approved mares...that's quite an accomplishment.
Notebook survived 18 starts in the Lukas barn - he must have been made out of steel. Anyway, I think Ocala Stud and the O'Farrells run the BEST breeding operation in the country. They breed for class and durability, and actually try to breed a good racehorse. As with all their stallions, they did an excellent job managing Notebook.
Example: When the farm hit the jackpot with Chapel Royal, they didn't breed Cut Class Leanne back to a "fashionable" stallion...she went back to Montbrook twice after that in the hopes of selling a full sib. When she did go to a different stallion, she went to Notebook.
Yikes...my spelling stinks tonight! LOL
