Look at his race prior to the Fountain of Youth.
did they change styles with him?
does he have enough to get in the derby?
Prior to the FOY, he won twice by going to the front, including a 1 1/8 mile allowance at Gulfstream in 1:50. Basically, he ran that same race today. In the FOY, he was held off the pace and just wasn't in the hunt.
The last eighth was run in a jaw dropping :13.68--and that was the horses in
front, not the critters who finished 8 and 10 lengths back, Flashpoint and Soldat. To me, that says
NOTHING in this race shows obvious promise of wanting any part of 1 1/4 miles.
you have said pretty much what i was thinking, but won't say because i don't want to come out as a cry baby. the fact is someone has to win the race. everyone can't losthis e, but just because a horse wins a race, doesn't mean it's a good race. was not a good race. half the horses in the race were hyped beyond belief. the best horses in the country right now are in Arkansas and California, with 1 being in new york.
R heat lighting would have won this race, quite easily IMHO, and she wants no part of uncle mo or possibly the factor
If I owned any one of the first 6 horses, I think I would go looking for nice second-tier races for them to win, and let others run their colts into oblivion in Louisville. Winning some nice graded stakes elsewhere would do more for a potential stallion than finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby, I would think...
For long term, I mean, he just won a 1 million dollar grade 1, tip your hat, but i'm taliking hte rest of the year.. winning that race, or even running GOOD in the race, is the worst thing that can happen. say you have shackleford, you run in the Preakness.. off the board, you run in the Belmont, off the board, you run in the jim dandy, off the board.. "but dammit he almost won the Florida derby I know he can go 2 turns".. and what can you say, he's got a point.
If I am going to lose a race like that, leave no doubt lol. Think ice box.. same scenario. he ran good in a bad florida derby and ran 2nd in the worst derby I can remember and everyone thinks he is a legit grade 1 2 turn horse, proceed to run up the track in every race left on the schedule. and he would get bet down in every race because "he almost won the derby"
