Fun race to watch, blistering pace. Interesting Violence tried to come back to Orb after all that effort. Lookin' forward to Violence and Shanghai Bobby lockin' horns comin' down the stretch :!:

I've Struck a Nerve

I've Struck a Nerve actually must have been something like 135-1 as he paid $272. Don't know how the odds were that poor as he hit the board 4 of his 8 starts.....1 win, 1 place and 2 shows.

Can't believe no-one mentioned Normandy Invasion, the horse to take from the race.

Watch a rerun of the Remsen, badly checked first turn and then goes down in a head bob.

Comes back stumbles at the start this race and makes up huge amount of ground into about 5th.

Some races to be one by this fella.

Hi Dub,
You're right about Normandy Invasion....actually both the Florida invader's Palace Malice too) didn't fare to well during the running. TJ

i actually had money on normady invastion as well. nothing is worse than knowing you lost not 1 second after the race starts. now you just have to wait it out.

it was his first race of the year + bobble i'll gie him a slight pass, but a real derby horse woudl have won this race anyway this is not a good field. i'll have another could have taken a nap in the gate and still won this race.

Not saying he will win the Derby but deffinately the horse to take out of the race.

I don't think the Derby winner ran last weekend.

Hi Dub,
Looks like Normandy Invasion is going to run back in NY...in the Wood Memorial. Shug announced Orb will return in the Florida Derby....but as is his way, he left the door open to the Wood as well:>) TJ

Somehow I think the Derby winner will come from NY or CA this year, Florida seems intent on crippling the 3yr olds with overly fast tracks.

Hi dub,
There have been significant changes to the Gulfstream Park track after the renovations in 2006. It was at a point (prior to the change made to the track) that many refused to train at GP and opted for Palm Meadows and Payson Park. The track was hard and fast....no doubt. Although the last couple season's the GP track is much safer. Fast times are a by product of good horses and the best are down here every year. So far this year, the breakdown rate is far less then ever before at GP.
Santa Anita still remains the speedway with the most breakdowns. From the Jockey Club...fatalities per 1000 starter's:
Santa Anita (dirt): 2010/1.53, 2011/2.94, 2012/3.05
Gulfstream Park (dirt): 2010/.85, 2011/1.30, 2012/1.34
Saratoga (dirt) 2009/.98, 2010/1.52, 2011/.93, 2012 1.17
Hollywood Park (synthetic): 2009/2.31, 2010/1.96, 2011/2.04
Betfair Hollywood Park (synthetic) 2012/1.83
Golden Gate (synthetic) 2009/1.33, 2010/1.60, 2011/1.37, 2012/1.65
Del Mar (synthetic) 2009/1.70, 2010/1.88, 2011/1.85, 2012/2.46
