Gracious even in defeat!!! Nothing new there. I would have to say that both Govenor Charlie and Midnight Lucky outran their pedigree. I don't know how to "delve deeper" though, Bill, I was just starting to get the basics.

Thanks, Bill. He really ran a great race!

I was pretty far off the mark with Shakin It Up, though.
So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)

Nice goin' Zia and Karen...now get ready for next week with The Wood Memorial and Louisiana Derby. They also have the UAE Derby (in Dubai) as a qualifying points race next Saturday as well. The probable entries for the two American races are listed in the Handicapping section.....get a head start on picking your next winner's:>). TJ

bill,

keep in mind that midnight lute is not really a sprinter; he's a router with breathing problems that sprints because of the breathing problems. but he was not intended to be a sprinter. he was very much a 2 turn horse starting out.

I liked him as a horse and I'm glad to see he is having some success. I like it when good horses become good sires. It's good for the game overall.

It's a lot like I bet Discreet Cat's offspring are going to want to run farther than most people would think looking at Discreet Cat's race record; he really wasnt' a miler or a spritner he became that post surgary

Good point bdw. In my formulation Midnight Lute comes out as a sprinter type based on how I evaluate pedigree. Real Quiet had more of a sprinter pedigree as well but had enough stamina influences on his damline to bring him up to a B on my stamina scale. That said, there are flaws in my system, and I am constantly re-examining my methodology hoping to fine tune the process. I too am a fan of Midnight Lute and am very pleased at his early success. Mike Pegram hails from this neck of the woods (Mount Vernon, WA), although he doesn't live here any more, and I am happy for him.
Looking forward to next weekends races.

Governor Charlie, serious horse most impressive 3yr old performance this year.

Hard held for the first 1/2 mile then let loose, pulled right away and didn't look like he was stopping.

He didn't brake the best and was 4 wide the first turn?

Anyone have the latest updates on the points?
Is he in for the Derby now?

Pretty sure he'll need another race to get the necessary points.

if they are letting 20 horses in i think what is it, 40 points is enough to ensure a spot in the gate.

though i would still personally get another one in him i think he has enough to get in

Hi Dub,
Here's the most recent and complete update. I believe 50 points....which Charlie has, should be good enough to get in without another start. Those with 30 or less have to get to work to hold their position. TJ

Hi bdw,
I agree....it will be a great day of racing and answer a lot of questions concerning the 3YO picture. TJ

Hi bdw,
That race is for 4YO and up fillies and mares....it has nothing to do with the Derby Preps. Joyful Victory won that race which was run last Saturday 3/16. TJ
