No doubt the breeders owners did all the right things. But i have far more respect for a guy like McGauhey who has produced some of the best horses ever since i can remember. Fact remains if so many pedigree experts are so enamoured over this horses pedigree and are "in the know" he would be much more bet down than he was. I'll stick with horses out of Storm Cat, Pegasus, Causeway, Danzig, Deputy Minister, AP Indy, etc..I think the bottom line is whether your Andy Beyer, Mike Watchmaker, Hdembski or some pedigree expert, the derby showed no one is a true expert. A great handicapper weighs MANY factors, pedigree only being part. My friend who swears by the Thorograph sheets told me to throw out Bandini and he was right yet, he couldn't predict the winner or second place horse. So were all guessing and it's the horses who always have final say..

On the sat morning I printed off George Smith's predictions re his method of forecasting winners. He said that the first choice was the derby winner and in the same breathe said he was sorry but this was the 1st horse his system picked.I am not a bettor so sat at the track with this paper in my hand and of course, did not bet!!!!!!!!!!! This is one time I did wish that I was a bettor.Congrats ,George.Marg

Intent won the 7 furlong Malibu Stakes and was runner up in the 7furlongs Lakes and Flowers Stakes both races were run in 1952.

Intent won the 1952 San Juan Capistrano at 14 furlongs, If I remember this race was run on dirt as in the later years it was run on grass.

When I researched Intent and found the above, I place Intent in the Speed and Stamina, as Intent qualified for both.

Hi all

I have the conduit mare of Intent, Cherokee Rose II, (the same conduit as Storm Cat) as Brilliant/Stout. Intent's sire, War Relic, traces to Query, rated as Classic.

Can't mention the Derby without mentioning Closing Argument, who ran the most impressive race of the 20 entered.
