hi zinn21

I would not go so far as to describe Brother Derek's Ky Derby post as a lose lose situation. I do sense though that he did not draw a particularly good post (all things considered)...and would have been in a much better position to use a bit less gas at the outset (and maybe even well into the race) if he had drawn a post that's more (maybe much more) toward the inside than the outside.

Arguably he will be tested like never before...and it will be interesting to see where he is when turning for home, and what he has left for the stretch run. Who knows, Brother Derek might prove to be a superhorse and blow them all away, regardless of post.

I suggest that we might be in store for a very interesting and potentially very exciting horserace. I expect to see one heck of a stretch run.

May the BEST horse win.

Respectfully

Of more concern to me as a bettor than the outside post is that BD's one loss came on a deeper east coast track (Belmont). Churchill isn't Big Sandy, but it isn't a So-Cal drag strip either. If the track is even the slightest bit off due to rain or whatever, I predict he'll have even more trouble.

He also likes to engage the frontrunners, and with Sharp Humor and Sinister Minister to contend with, we'll find out how well he rates once and for all.

Edit: The more I look at this race, the more I wonder if Baffert is using Sinister Minister as a rabbit for either his stalker (Bob and John) or his confirmed closer (Point Determined).

Given Sinister Minister just rattled off one of the highest Beyer figures ever in a Derby prep, he's using him as his War Emblem. A super speedy horse that he hopes can win the Derby. Its expected he'll be challenged early and often, but you never know.

I'm guessing Baffert's hoping Sinister Minister can wire the field and if he can't one of the other two can pick up the pieces.

I would only assume SM was a rabbit if he was owned by Lewis or Stonerside. I know I sure as hell wouldn't let him kill my horse to benefit someone else.

maybe he's banking on the idea that since everyone knows the front end will be contentious and b*tchin' fast (he's publicly stated he will go for the lead), maybe everyone will try to leave him alone up there and he might be able to run away with it. I say oh right sure fine whatever good luck, but he *has* won the derby that way before.
