I just remember what happened to good old Guided Tour after he was sold to Saudi interests. Poor thing was put on the plane alone with no bandages. A friend of mine was flying with a horse to Japan and happened to be Guided Tours exercise rider. She saw him freaked out and without bandages, so she took a set of Generous Rosi's wraps and put them on Guided Tour.

He was a great horse to be around and it was a shame he died shortly after arriving in Dubai.

The Maktoums are so important for racing, they care for horses very dearly and although they have an enormous amount of horseflesh under there various banners, they still treat there horses with individual care. Remember sheikh Rashid's affection for Dubai Millenium.

Perhaps Thors Echo will have his horizons broadened this year. Remember Daylami was three when he was bought from the aga khan as a group one winning three year old in france. By the time he retired as a five year old he'd won group ones in England Ireland Dubai and North America and was the eclipse award winning turf horse.

I was lucky enough to be among those who got through to the second round in the flying start selection process and although I didn't make the final sixteen that got two years travelling around the world learning from industry professionals (www.darley.com.au and follow the darley worldwide prompts) I did see who was getting in and they are a diverse bunch. At the time I was a theatre student at uni with an interest in racing and this is one of the brilliant things about the programme, law students, farmers and journalists. Whoever you are you have a shot (and there isn't necessarilly an age limit) If you want a crack applications for 2007 are still open.

Anyway I know I sound like a press officer for Darley but I can assure you I'm not and that if there is anyone with more passion for the game (and the money to affect serious change) the Maktoums are it.

I certainly hope all you "positive" folk are absolutely correct.

I've seen too many of what I *thought* were good people, because they *looked* like good people and the horses were treated well, while racing or preparing to race under their names. But once the horse no longer *fit* the purpose...they didn't care at all what happened to the horse.

So...let this not be a case of *out of sight*...out of mind. Because as long as the world is paying attention...things just seem to have a better chance of turning out a bit better.

We can all take a lesson from the Maktoums..."

PASSION" and "CONSISTENCY" for something you care about, LEADS TO SUCCESS. (Even when you don't have their money  )
