I am actually glad about that! Will there be an equipment change?

You could ship her west and run short- always a place for a good 870 horse around this country. They let TB's in the Mixed Breed races going that distance- or they run 4 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitas. Not quite what you had in mind, perhaps, but certainly an option if you want to keep her racing.
I am curious to know how old she is and how many outs she has had- how about her feet? They can start stinging about then if she has thin soles-also, is it after she switches leads at the top of the lane that she quits? -could be an issue with that lead in which case I would look at ankles, knees, etc.
I also agree with the idea that she may need a little bute as pain can cause breathing issues as well and since they can't tell us they hurt- they may show it by poor performance and 'issues". If she were in my barn I would certainly suggest running her on it a time or two before you throw in the towel but I also can relate to the purist stance. Her work certainly suggests ability -especially if that is her usual time. Just some thoughts....

Tuc,
I am hoping the trainer will use a figure 8 bridle and french link bit.....
Njc,
Yes, I believe someone else mentioned bute as she may be feeling pain. This is very concerning to me as she is racing barefoot. So, now I am wondering if she is feeling pain.
Thus, it looks like I might have to choose between putting shoes on her or trying her with bute.
I do feel like a failure and hypocrite if I give her bute.
However, we always said that we would start all horses barefoot and drug free and see who can or cannot do it and adjust. It's just tough because we wanted so bad for her to be able to do it clean.
I know from being around horses most of my life that you have to treat each one as an individual. Just because she might need bute doesn't mean another one of our horses would need it too. They are all so different.
This filly is so sound. She can race every 10-14 days and is never off and her legs are always clean and cold. She raced on wednesday and then did that near bullet work (2nd out of twenty-eight at Monmouth) 3 days later. So, you would think if her feet hurt she would be short strided or ouchy.
Is it possible for her feet to sting while racing but not while working?
I don't know. I feel like I am compromising my ethics but I don't want to run her if she is hurting somewhere in the race.......

If only they could talk......I have known a few that run like the dickens in the morning and just can't get it together in the afternoon. They are the most frustrating of all.
I is she a nervous filly- does she wash out in the paddock? Has she ever tied up after a work or a race? There are just so many things to consider.
Sounds like you are content with your trainer"s judgement and knowledge- What does she think? I would tend to rely on her opinion as she knows the filly- all this other is pure conjecture at this point. It could be any, all or none of these things.
Let's hope she fires on the turf and all is good!!

If you're on them, you can hear it, and so, I'd wonder what the jock's explanation for the stop was.
In this particular case I'd be puzzled why I'd find out about the so called problem as a result of racing. Seems to me the trainer would have reported any persistent problem merely due to the training. Since he/she apparently never did this, it makes you wonder whether there's a whole lot of training going on. Thus, I might want to know the horse's gallop history to aid in explanation.
Could it be she simply isn't a speed horse or maybe needs a longer distance (at slower fractions) for her speed to stick? Would love to see a conformation shot of her.

Just from what you say above, it sounds like she is being overtrained. Bullet works and racing every 10 - 14 days. Great way to burn a filly out and turn her sour.
Would love to see a conformation pic.

Hi. No, she's not nervous. She shakes a little but has never washed out before or tied up after......
Thanks! The turf is her last shot!!

Oh, she is a speed horse alright. She usually works the bullet or is 2nd or 3rd. When she races she can get a half in close to :45....
We tried having her rate and close but she didn't respond. She's not rank or anything but tends to be just off the pace in behind the leaders...
Her conformation is very correct. Her only fault is her pasterns could be shorter but she does not wear them down and runs wrap free.

She's not being overtrained. You must just be use to all the lame horses out there that can only race once every other month.
She is turned out 12 hours a day; gallops aggressively; eats up; and looks great. She hops right on the trailer to ship in to race and is always on her toes. I know a sour horse and she is not sour.
Her parents had 105 starts combined (Dam is a multi-allowance winner; sire is a multi-graded stakes winner; filly is half to 2 allowance winners and one allowance placed horse).
Legs are clean and cold....

So I am guessing you have never seen a work tab on a Headly or a Baffert.

Strategic- I do hope the trainer will try the figure 8 and tongue tie. She has never worn a tongue tie so, hopefully, she will adjust ok. I am hoping the trainer gallops her with it at home to get her use to it.
jrctlc- interesting. Well, unfortunately, the dam and all 4 siblings, materal granddam and all of her 11 runners were ALL sprinters!! So, her pedigree is very speed based. She could be the exception though.....However, the trainer didn't think she was a 2 tun horse.
But, I guess you just never know!
