Allen Jerkens story:

He once had a horse (Clean 'Em Up) that just didn't want to train. He'd freeze before leaving the gap, stand still on the track, wouldn't do anything - the horse just didn't want to run. Mr Jerkens got an idea:

For three or four straight days, he dressed the horse up every morning, let it go to the gap with the rest of the set, but he told the exercise kid to just say there with the horse while the other horses ran around. Then when Clean 'Em Up saw the other horses running around to just lead him back to the barn.

After the third day, the horse got so mad that it bit, kicked, stomped, you name it.

The horse then started to train and won its next start.

That kind of genius just isn't found, and that's why The Chief is THE BEST!

:shock: :shock: For the first time in history.... I agree with Louis.
If the horse was talentless or unsound... really unsound... he'd be on a stallion roster somewhere. Purchase price alone and the apparent speed would ensure a decent fee.

I don't know if breeders in Siberia know of The Green Monkey. Maybe Coolmore could buy a few acres in the tundra and stand him there.

Sing along:

Suddenly,
I'm not half the horse I used to be;
My ass has been killing me;
An overpriced....Forestry.

Hi All,
Once again The Green Monkey worked right on schedule. Pletcher is beginning to crank him up, he worked 5/8ths in 1:00.49 handily, he was 2/28 on the Belmont main track worktab. Magna Graduate had the fastest 5/8ths in 1:00.21 but he was only breezing. TJ

Of the 30 that worked at the distance, TGM's work is the ONLY one notated "handily." How much was his sore tush beaten down the lane?

Hiya Rok,
How ya doin? I do believe that was noted (handily) in my original post, I noticed all others were breezing too--but didn't think it was important to announce it. You been around, it's his first serious move over 5 furlongs in who knows how long. He was moving along at a decent clip, probably got a bit tired and needed some coaxing to finish.
Next week will surely tell the tale of the "butt", if he makes his scheduled work next Sunday I would think his "butt" troubles are "behind" him :>) TJ

Just to make a point here. I'm assuming we are all glad that the Green Monkey is healthy enough to be breezing regularly, and that even although he cost too much money, no-one wants to make some kind of point by having him injured.

I would be happy to see him make it to the racecourse and be successful, not because of Sheiks or Coolmore or money or politics, but because he's a horse, and a nice one by all accounts.

Let's not confuse the horse with his connections.

Hi Geo,
Well stated and I absolutely agree with you, it's always about the health and well being of the horse--his price tag be it $16 or $16 million has nothing to do with it. TJ

By today's standards, a once a week breeze is not a heavy morning workload. Does anyone know The Green Monkey's training regiment? Does he breeze 1 1/4 mile? 1 1/2 mile? In company? Open gallop? At what lick?

I think these would be more telltale signs of where the horse is right now.
