In honour of Macho Man ( wrestler ) we are putting money down on MMM
I am also picking animal Kingdom too.
There is a concidence in the death of the wrestler and the horse running.

Sorry folks.
AK lost it at the break. Great effort by Shackleford. I thought Flashpoint would put him away, but it was the other way around. Mr. Commons kind of ran a merry-go-round race, and was never a factor. I thought Animal Kingdom ran on courageously, and I think he will be super tough in the Belmont. MMM didn't fire today either. Good run from Astrology, who should move up in the Belmont. Very disappointed in Flashpoint's performance. I just hope he came out of the race OK. I lost a fair amount of money today, but I'm still playing on the Derby winnings.

My picks would have done it (ran 2-3) but I too thought Flashpoint would cook Shackleford. Shackleford is bred just like The Green Monkey and the world didn't end at 6pm.......strange times we live in.

Well, not good enough...and nope!!

Is anyone else as crushed as I am :( .... I've been saying all along that Shack is one tough race horse...he's got grit, guts and class and I knew he'd be right there...he sure cooked Flashpoint, but as someone mentioned (Bill?)...fading to dead last, hope the colt is OK....Midnight Interlude didn't run a lick...guess Baffert will switch him over to grass now, which might be interesting...
but for AK's connections...my heart feels sad...one thing, to the doubters of this horse, he prooved the Derby was no fluke...a better start and he would of won today. I haven't watched a replay yet and really watch the race, but if AK didn't like the kick back, why didn't Johnny take him out right away...he also kinda blew it when he did start his move by not grabbing the first open hole to the outside...having to wait that 2 seconds was bad, and he even side swiped someone...who then bumped Dialed In as he was moving...I think that tiny little wait really cost him the race...
but, I am happy for Dale Roman's...I'm glad it was him that upet the apple cart.
Shack won't go to the Belmont...but we'll have AK, Dialed IN and Nehro and Astrology too...should be a great race, but the Belmont grandstand won't be packed and that makes me sad too...my old stompin' ground.

I am crushed right now...damnit!!!

Fun race to watch.

The five horse proved to be all grit and game today. He proved his efforts in the Florida Derby and the Kentucky Derby were no flukes. It will be interesting to see what he has left in the tank after those three grueling efforts. Astrology got the perfect trip and when he came to the winner at the 3/16ths, I thought I had a winner! Just wasn't meant to be, wasn't in the stars. Astrology should be tough to beat next out. Animal Kingdom ran a good one, was likely too far back, but I don't think he cared much for the surface - kinda reminded me of the race Zenyatta ran in the BC Classic.

Will the five horse go in the Belmont Stakes after those three grueling efforts? I say nada.

Well, my picks WERE Flashpoint (he's gray!) and Sway Away (just because).

There goes twelve bucks...

Shackleford blew away all the commentator's predictions ("He's acting up! ... He's hot! ... I don't like that in a horse!... Doesn't bode well for him!") and ran a great race. The gate load was interesting. A fun race to watch.

I thought the Versus coverage was far superior to NBC, but at least this time round you could HEAR the race call.
Somebody bet on the gray!

Hi Joanie,
That's too bad you didn't have the exacta....Lots of action in this Preakness, the winner bobbled at the break, Animal Kingdom broke slowly, Dialed In brushed at the start by MMM, steadied and bumped with Norman Asbjornson, MMM broke outward and was steadied along in his trip....meanwhile the track was slow....the early fractions were fast, yet the final time was 4 seconds over the track record. Might just get a new shooter, fresh out of the Peter Pan, to win the Belmont....Alternation was quite impressive running down Adios Charlie and the distance doesn't look like it will bother him. Here's the Preakness video...TJ

I mean, they weren't wrong. hew as washed out. that was a fact.

the bottom line is, the more I handicap, the more money I win and lose through the windows, the more I learn, that every horse is an individual. that's the key that alot of people miss.

people want so badly to plug in a system and it just work. some horses handle things different than other horses. just like some people handle things differently than some people. If I slapped 10 people on this forum, all of you would probably handle it 100% differently than the other 9 people.

secondly, moreso than that, the big picture is being lost. I think of everything from a long term perspective, and long term wise, a horse that washed out, is just going to have to beat me.

and you know what, sometimes they will. today shakelford did.

horse racing and poker actually have alot in common in that regard, and it's something the best poker players seem to grasp better than most horse players, sometimes,l you are just going to get beat. yes sometimes you are going to have Ace and King and get beat on the river. It's going to happen.

you might have won today, but you will lose a LOOOOT o;f money on horses like that when you keep betting them because "shackleford proved them wrong in the Preakness". In fact it's races like this I don't mind losing for that very reason.
