Re: The Derby is the most prestigious race of all

DUDE! Keith, double returns on the enter key are a GOOD THING. Please. If you're going to post something that long, could you at least separate the thoughts and try to make paragraphs. That was a major headache to read. It's not that hard. Just hit the enter key twice before you change thoughts.

THAT is your opinion. It is not mine.

Keith wrote:you can not compare Barbaro to Giacomo.

Nor can you compare Barbaro to Smarty Jones or Afleet Alex. Barbaro has more in common with Giacomo than he does with Jones or Alex.

Keith wrote:Last year Bellamy Road had the most impressive win for a three year old when he won the Wood Memorial.

Irrelevant. The Wood Memorial is not a classic. Despite what a lot of people want to convince themselves of, there are only three classics in this country for 3yos -- The Derby, Preakness and Belmont.

Keith wrote:One race does not make a champion but when you win a race like the Kentucky Derby it sure does help.

Not to the voters. The Derby doesn't mean squat to voters UNLESS it is followed up by a second classic or a win in the fall.

Keith wrote:Afleet Alex deserved champion three year old

And no one was arguing that Alex didn't deserve CH. 3yo. At least I wasn't. Even with LITF's record, there was no way in hell he was going to get the 3yo title over a dual classic winner.

Keith wrote:Bernardini was hands down the best horse in the Preakness and I doubt Barbaro would have beat him even if he did not break down.

Agreed.

Keith wrote:So should Go for Wand not have been a champion because she broke down.

Go For Wand got her title because she EARNED IT, her breaking down didn't have a damn thing to do with it and Barbaro breaking down should not even be THOUGHT of let alone mentioned when you try to make a case for him as 3yo CH.
