Bill, what do the grades mean? Is that your handicapping opinion or conduit mare profiles? Take Charge Indy will beat that sprinter at 10f. lol.

Hi Diomed

The grades are based on the MCM profiles. Take Charge Indy has the Borel factor going for him, so I think there is a chance there. He's a tough runner, but I don't think the 10f suits him. He will certainly finish ahead of the sprinter (IMO). I like the horse, I just like others better. I may be eating crow after the race.
Good Luck.

Thanks Bill. That's kinda what I thought.
I am only pulling for two horses (Take Charge Indy and Alpha) since I am not wagering.
If I was wagering, I would be all over Gemologist.

he scares me. alot actually. 10x more than BM or union rags does. I can seriously see him winning this race.

but you have to take a stand somewhere and I believe the horses on the west coast are just better.

so I look up went the day well's pedigree or what not, and you know how if you hit the little circle the info on him comes down and sometimes there will be important notes about the horse or his pedigree or who he is related to or antyhing important. lol went the day well's important info is that he has his own facebook page.

I am surprised this post is not picking up since the post positions were announced. I would have thought that some of the opinions may have changed.

Obviously if they are in the race they have some chance but from most of what you see online it focuses on 10 horses.

Does anyone have current Rag #s on them.

Hansen
Union Rags
Dullahan
Creative Cause
Gemologist
Take Charge Indy
Bodemeister
I'll Have Another
Went the Day Well
Liasion (bc of post draw do not feel he is a contender anymore)

Thoughts anyone?

Bill from WA - I always enjoy and respect your comments but am surprised to see both Dullahan & Went The Day Well among your picks as their recent works were unimpressive at best. Dullahan impressed me very much in the Bluegrass but his work at Churchill was horrendous and Went The Day Well had an equally appaling work at Keeneland followed by an average work at Churchill.

Union Rags has been a monster in the morning and the change to Leparoux may be the missing puzzle piece. The way Gemologist re-broke when Alpha came to him with all the momentum in the stretch of the Wood showed tremendous talent and drive. Not many can re-break once they have started cruising. Done Talking is my dark horse as he closed well into a very slow pace in the IL Derby.

I am angry that Trinniberg is in the race. He may be the most talented sprinter of his generation and yet his owners are risking injury in a futile attempt - the only way he goes 1 1/4 miles is in a trailer.

Waiting for Rags before making my final selections, but it is nice to see such a competitive Derby!
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

has anyone heard anything about creative cause having shoe / foot issues the last few days?

I know the last time I listened to rumors like this I talked myself off of chamberlain bridge in the BC sprint and i had him pegged to win the BC sprint since he won the chicago handicap in july. i kicked myself all day for that one.

Hi bdw,
On his flight to CD, he lost a shoe en-route and along with the shoe a piece of his hoof broke off. They said they patched the hoof and he's doing OK? I did see a pic of CC shown walking the shedrow with two bandaged front feet....he also walked two days after his good work earlier this week, trainer says that's the norm after one of his horses work?? Mike Welsch, who's seen him train said he hasn't had a good week and he's moving better when he gallops then when he jogs? TJ

When I was growing up in Colombia, I always heard the racing pundits say that if there were two grays in a race, one of the two would win. So if not Creative Cause, we still have Hansen.

The weather says scattered thunderstorms for Saturday. Does that give the fast horses a leg up? The faster they break the less mud in their faces? How will the rain affect the favorites?
