I'm waiting for someone to write just the right comment so that I can reply with Keyed Entry. Talk about having my shotgun loaded.

BOOM!!! LOL!

A thought just occurred to me:

Todd Pletcher carries 200 horses in training at any given time. Here are his 2006 stats:

1168 starts: 294 wins, 238 place, 140, third

25% win, 57% in the money

If my calculator is correct, he's averaged 5.84 starts/horse and 1.47 wins/horse in 2006.

If the same average was true for 2005, that means by the end of a horse's three year old season, it would have (on average) run 11.68 times and won 2.94 times over two seasons.

How does Todd Pletcher get the most out of his average horse if it averages less that three wins by the end of its three year old season?

You could argue that these numbers might be skewed because he constantly has fresh unraced stock coming into the barn. Fair enough...but where does the raced stock go to make room for the replacements? :?
