Postby mightyhijames » Mon Jun 26, 2006 6:38 am

has anyone come across any 2-year olds by civilisation (wva) that are racing? i've heard there's one in florida that is getting some attention but haven't heard any details.

If there's one in Florida, it hasn't raced yet (or Brisnet needs to update). Brisnet shows 42 2yos and 45 yearlings but not starters yet.

I noted in another thread that a 2yo. in training by Civilisation sold yesterday at Timonium for $16K. Nice looking horse by the video.

denise, thanks for the info, that's good to know. given his pedigree, it will be interesting to see what his offspring do on the track. he was, unfortunately, hurt in a gate accident (i believe) very early in his career.

Civilisation

What a pedigree he has...and what a family! Imagine what he might have been if he hadn't lost an eye and could have raced.
I'm still waiting to see his half sister Tolerance run again.

Toussaud has been bred to some very good stallions [including Gone West] but does not seem to have produced any really outstanding or super sires yet. Maybe Civilisation will be the exception.

The Civilasation colt, hip #57 at the Timonium 2yo sale just concluded was well sold. He wasn't fast but he moved pretty better than most (in this sale) and is pretty well made.

$16k was a very respectable price where the average was just above $10k and the median less than $6k.

Most of the horses moved poorly and many had serious flaws. Hip #89 by Fusaichi Pegasus sold for $4,500 and that was more than his worth.

An enterprising Finger Lakes trainer could have loaded an 8 horse trailer with reasonable NYBred prospects for less than @$40,000 (and not have bought the worst).

It was a terrible sale for sellers and I don't know that this sale will exist next year. I filled some specific needs but it was a rough sale.

Pete

Pete

Do you remember the name of the Civilisation colt or the name of his dam? We have a 2006 WERK A++ colt out of a Cryptoclearance daughter and would like to compare pedigrees.

this is posted on the 'stallions' site:

Check out hip #57 in today's Fasig Tipton sale from Timonium. The have live video on the site, so you can see "Virginia Rebel" in the flesh.

The buyer must have really liked Civilisation as the bottom half of Virginia Rebel pedigree is not impressive.

Thanks, Pete, for the sale synopsis. I have felt that aside from the false sale propping, a good portion of sales recently have been really poor.

I've just finished reading "Wild Ride" the book about Calumet, Lundy and all that "bad." From the aspect of that particular book, Lundy seems to have been a major instigator in the "smoke and mirrors" sales methods at auction.

I'm heading to the July yearling sale. I never knew all that about Fasig Tipton, Lundy and Brant. Who owns Fasig Tipton now?

Hi Griff,

Speed, movement and the way that a foal looks have far more impact than pedigree (sire or dam/page) at 2yo sales.

If the youngster looks anjd moves the part then sire and page will amplify nicely.
