Quack

Postby jagger » Sun Jul 09, 2006 7:18 am

Just noticed, yesterday during the running of the Hollywood Gold Cup, that the track record was set by "Quack" in 1972 at 1:58 1/5. This is also a world record for 3 year olds on dirt. Quack must have been a dud at stud as I can't recall seeing him in any pedigrees.

Ah... Quack is one of those stallions that is nice to see in a broodmare's pedigree. His daughters seem to have been much better racers than his sons. I have one mare, Sal's Prospector, who is actually out of a Quack mare, which is perhaps a bit unusual, considering she is only 7 years old. She is in foal for an '07 by my stallion, Rocking Trick.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Not too many pedigrees but he's still around in El Corredor's and Roman Ruler's pedigree. Also in Banshee Breeze.

Quack wasn't a bad sire, not Storm Cat or Mr. Prospector mind you but not bad. His best sons were both injured--Encourage fatally and Dr. Daly (a half to Exploded) who was later gelded when he didn't come back the same from his injury. Quack had a nice filly for Jack Van Berg in the late '80's named Beyond Perfection. Like most Charlie Whittingham horses though he was deemed disappointing at stud. Ol' Charlie could make them racehorses but not sires.

Thanks Curtis for remembering Charlie Whitingham. Charlies barn is now occupied by Richard Mandella.

Quack was one of my favorites, as were many other of Charlie's TB.

Charlie was a real class person and always said good morning and hello to all.

Mike Whitingham, Charlies son is back training again and has only one horse at this time.
