The Tin Man takes the Million!!

Postby Shergar » Sat Aug 12, 2006 3:01 pm

Yeah for the old man!

Just love watching this old boy run.

Can't believe they let him get away with such a soft pace. When the announcer said they did the half in 50 and change, just knew The Tin Man would be there at the end.

IMHO it was a darned good field he beat.

Regards, Shergar

Glad to see him do it; I've got a soft spot for these old geldings that are always in there trying. And whooooeeee! did you see the move Gorella put in to take the Beverly D? She streaked by her field down the stretch like the rest had suddenly been shod with lead!

Me too. I love these older heroes, the mares too. The Tin Man, Mystery Giver (who finally came back at Arlington from almost a two year layoff and won a claimer, can't wait to see if he can climb back into stakes company), Perfect Drift, Film Maker.

Anyone have any other favorite older horses running?

The Tin Man's best race for me other than this Million was his 2003 San Luis Obispo.. He won by like, 12 lengths..

I love Mystery Giver because his sister is one of my favorite mares.. Ioya Two.

I love to give The Tin Man a big hug when I visit him, as the wizard of oz is my favorite movie and The Tin Man is my favorite TB.

TTM has only 5 crosses of Phalaris and has soundness and the heart of a lion. Thanks for the memories TM, Both John Henry and TTM our from the same mold.

That was a magnificent win by the old man...he was going along as if to say "come on you young whipper snappers...come and get me!"

The Tin Man

Is it possible for him to get horse of the year? What would have to transpire for this to happen?

Horse of the Year

Postby geowarrior » Sun Aug 13, 2006 5:06 pm

To get horse of the year I think he'd need to beat Lava Man and/or win the breeder's cup turf. The latter will be tough if Showing Up competes, but since Showing Up did well on the dirt before, I suppose it's not a given he might not go for the turf.

I think it's a slim chance but I'd love it if the Tin Man could do it.

Well, Bluegrass Cat, Bernardini and Lava Man would have to goose egg the rest of the season for starters.

AND...

No other dirt horse with a G1 on the resume would be able to step up and win 2 G1s from here to the end of the year.

AND...

The Tin Man would have to win the Man O' War, the Turf Classic, the Breeders' Cup Turf and probably the Hollywood race during the turf festival that I'm currently drawing a blank on by double digits.

Simply put, no.

Not to say it isn't theoretically possible, but in reality, no. Turf horses practically have to fly to the moon to make that happen.

He hasn't won many times this year (once or twice? and once at a Gr. 1), and the dirt horses are very deep this year. Invasor already has three Gr. 1 wins and Lava Man is trying to equal that feat. Nope, eyes won't stray far from dirt horses this year... unless that moon trip happens  Not to say he isn't a very nice horse, but even top turf horses get second billing to a dirt runner. Sometimes life ain't fair.

Anyone know if there is anywhere to see the replay that doesn't charge a fee?

Sadly, calracing.com now only seems to show replays of races actually run in California. That wasn't always the case, but recently the changed the look of the site, and I think they also disabled the ability to play any out of state races. They will show up in the list, but they show up grayed out.
