LOST IN THE FOG?

Postby Swaps1955 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 8:12 am

I read that Lost in the Fog was supposed to have an ultrasound yesterday (Thursday) to determine any changes in the masses. Has anybody read or heard anything? Thanks!

This just in: http://www.drf.com/news/article/78169.html

No change. I wonder if that means they're actually working...it hasn't gone down but they're also not bigger... At least he's not feeling any worse.

Ok here's a Bloodhorse article on it---chemo's next. If I understood this right the best case scenario is that he might get 2 years out of this. http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=35139

An Interesting Viewpoint

Our farm insurance agent popped in yesterday to check on our construction progress with the indoor arena and meet this year's foals (he LOVED the babies!) Anyhow, in another discussion we chatted about Saint Liam and other horses. One of his pals had two shares in Saint Liam, stands to lose $80K a year in stud fees, and didn't insure the shares...

But we talked about Barbaro and Lost in the Fog. Since both were active racehorses they are both heavily insured (Barbaro was insured for $18 million coming out of the Derby and going into the Preakness they tried to up it to $27 million but couldn't get that done in time). Anyhow, LITF is most likely ALSO insured for millions, so natch the insurance companies are going to want all out efforts made to keep these horses alive.....even to the point, perhaps, of underwriting some of the vet bills?

I am keeping my fingers crossed that this grand horse will stay happy and comfortable and that the chemo will work for him. Some of his races were truly electric and I enjoyed his efforts on the track.

Apparently this chemo thing in horses is not done very often, but can someone tell me what exactly the chemo is supposed to do? Will it shrink the tumors, or just keep him alive a little longer?

Welcome, Mysterious Flame.

Here is an article that might help a little:

The size of the masses is surprising.

My ignorant understanding of chemo is that it (hopefully) kills the cancer cells a little faster than it kills the patient.

Apparently horses recover much quicker from chemo than people. It shouldn't be as hard on him to get treatments as it would you or I.

This just doesn't sound good...I guess they figure when he stops biting them he's not doing well so they must still have hope from that alone. I was hoping he'd at least have another year of good life left but I'm wondering if he'll still be around by the Breeders' Cup. He's a tough bugger though. There's always hope.
