PRIDE UPSET WINNER OVER SHIROCCO
Will the mare Pride upset Shirocco and Hurricane Run today at Longchamps? We will find out in 2 hours time.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

It was a neck - neck between Shirocco - Hurricane Run and Pride, with probably an unlucky ride and the "moral win" for Pride.
Hurricane Run was trying hard to challenge Shirocco all the run-in, but Shirocco had no problem to fight back. Time of 2:32,9 min on good going gives no hint in a "French run race" with a slow start and much finishing speed in the closing stage of the race.
Here is the picture of the race: http://www.france-galop.com/photos/10090604.jpg
And here is the complete card of today's racing at Longchamp: http://www.france-galop.com/REUNIONS/Cal_dat.htm
There is a good 3yo filly winning the "Vermeille". Mandesha by 5 lengths. So it's all open for the Arc
With a win and a 3rd (Royal Highness in the "Vermeille") Monsun is back on top of this year French sire list. And look at the "Gladiateur" with further 2 Monsuns' (Salutino, Le Miracle) and a chance to better his leading position in that ranking.

That's the "problem": "we" are so eager to win the Arc -31 years after the wonder-race with Star Appeal, who no one had in his view.
And after that shock the many loosers meanwhile: Nebos, probably the most unlucky, Lando, Tiger Hill, Borgia .... When Acatenango run in 1986 it was the "Arc" of the century: all 6 horses in front of him at the post could have won the race in any "normal" year and probably he too.
So after all these distroyed hopes: should Shirocco not win this year - will there ever be a "German" Arc-winner during this lifetime?

Fabre didnt want to give Shirocco a hard race before the Arc, thats why I thought the mare Pride would upset the applecart.
Parlo how did Shirocco look when he came back after the race, did he look like he just had a stroll in the park or was he showing signs of a tough race?

Sorry, Louis, I didn't see the race - but I know how races are run at Longchamp you must only look at the time and compare it with the other two races (Vermeille and Niel). So it should have been a sprint in the end with no urge on any of the 3 horses in first places. Let's see what is written in the English news:
The Racing Post-Correspondant says:
“Shirocco was pushed out to beat his stablemate Hurricane Run and Pride a neck and the same in the Prix Foy but the first three were not given a hard race and the event was really not much more than a training stint.
The final time of 2.32.9 seconds was slow considering the fastish ground and the race really turned into a sprint with the penultimate furlong being run in 10.7 seconds which was followed by the final furlong of 11.3 seconds.
Pacemaker Near Honor took his stablemates well into the straight and Shirocco was the first to quicken ahead of Hurricane Run and they looked to have the race to themselves until Pride suddenly kicked in the final furlong having been out paced early in the straight.”
The Sporting-Life-Correspondent says:
“Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, who rode four other winners on the card, including all three Arc trials, Shirocco just had to be coaxed along to fend off Kieren Fallon on the favourite, with the mare Pride a further neck away in third, although none of the principals were asked too many questions with the big day only three weeks away.
"He's won his trial so where else would you go with a horse like this?" said Paul Harley, racing manager to owner Baron Georg von Ullmann.
"He's very good and it was a gutsy performance but none of them had a hard race, that is clear. We just hope now that everything goes well over the next three weeks." “
