I have been observing a change of training patterns at Santa Anita.
Many trainers our sending their sore TB to HP to train on their new cushion surface, as those trainers that back off their TB will reap the harvest. Those trainers that dont back off will continue to have sore horses.

Just FYI, Louis they have already had a few horses break down on the new surface since opening.
And many trainers are actually shipping to Santa Anita to work.
And I still say if they are shipping as you said the sore horses to train over the alternate surface, then they will continue to have breakdowns. There hasn't been a surface created that really bad horses won't pop on. The ONLY solution is to back off.

Each trainer has his own formula for keeping their horses sound. Some trainers like the surface at HP, and some perfer SA.
SA in the winter is a nightmare, as the dirt track track is rolled before a storm arrives and the track is becomes too hard.
In July 07 SA will have the same cushion surface that HP has.

It's not a nightmare Louis. I differ from you in that I actually train over it on the back of a horse, you rely on the opinions of those who will converse with you.
The main that is floated (wisely) and dogs are up to protect the rail during the race meet, and is open to joggers only. The training track is really consistant if you insist on galloping it is a good surface year round.
Give it time, horsemen will always find something to bitch about, and an alternate surface will be no different.
