My rescue colleague, Dawn recently mailed a business card to me from her acquaintace, Jose (Pepe) Aragon, who is an exercise rider for many of Bafferts horses and travels along with Bafferts contenders to the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup. Here he is on Point Given, and fortunately, someone had a camera just as this occured-

He's also the exercise rider for Behavin' Badly, who is the fastest mare in the country and who should be racing in the Breeders Cup. I phoned her and also had the opportunity to speak w/Pepe to comment on this picture and he's a truly fantastic person! I asked him about this pic and he started laughing and said 'I just hung on!'
Cool Pic of Point Given-

Anyone else remember when Point Given lost his rider, lost his bridle and was "floating" about the track during his TC training? I believe they showed it during the KY Derby show in '01. He was hysterical. Rearing every 5 seconds and feeling so damn good. That horse SHOULD have won that Derby. He was a man among wee boys!!!
Yeah, that footage (of PG running around like a happy maniac) was used in the pre-derby whatever-they-show thing. They had edited it to cut out most of the background, focused in on his head, played it in slow-mo to music, so that it looked very emotional and staged, like a sappy commercial. I remember being surprised that they would go through the trouble of such a film shoot--until they mentioned that the footage came from when he got loose on the track and lost his bridle. Damn.

Vindicated - I believe the picture you saw had Bob Baffert in the background in place of the man you see in this photo. Pepe has asked me to find the photo with Baffert. I contacted the Associated Press and am waiting for an answer. Do you by any chance have that picture or know which news agency took the picture? Which paper did you see the picture in? Pepe said the picture was taken the morning of the Derby.
