"Great Hunter" [as in the 2 y.o. running in Cal]

Postby HiddenEchoFarm » Tue Sep 26, 2006 12:18 pm

Has anyone seen the 2 y.o. colt Great Hunter in person? He's trained by Doug O'Neill, racing in California & aiming for the Breeder's Cup Juvenile --

His dam is half to one of our new mares, so I've gone from not really knowing about him to being suddenly one of his biggest fans & hoping someone who knows him can pass along information on him -- or links to pictures or articles [I've already cruised the Breeder's Cup site].

Thanks.

There's an article here (prob. already seen it):

Second in Del Mar Futurity (G2) on September 6 at Del Mar

After Great Hunter finished second in the Del Mar Futurity (G2), jockey Corey Nakatani was obviously impressed with the youngster.

"This was a good race for him," Nakatani said. "We think of him as basically a two-turn horse. He acts like that and he runs like that. And here he is doing something [sprinting around one turn] that isn't his game at all and yet he does well at it."

Great Hunter will now be pointed for either the Norfolk Breeders' Cup Stakes (G2) on October 8 at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park, or the Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (G1) on October 7 at Keeneland Race Course.

Thanks, LaTroienne -- I had already seen that one. I was hoping someone had seen him personally, or could point me toward a picture.

Perhaps I'll have to wait for the Breeder's Cup!
