This weekend the big French race will be run at Longchamp. Not too many runners, but there is plenty of quality.

Who will win??

With 3 horses at odds of 3/1 it's a matter of believe - so why not one of the others (Pride, Alexandrovna, Mandesha - if she'll get an entry tomorrow)?

That's Sunday, 1/10 (Oct 1) to those who have trouble finding it. Race 7, with two horses trained by Aidan O'Brien and three by Andre Fabre. I don't see the odds, but the first three listed are highweights.

Here is an odds-checker on the race:

A British racing journalist said once: "Arc-Day is a one-day-wonder!"

This is true - marvellous horses on a first class track and a fantastic audience from all over Europe - (the World?!).

If you haven't seen it at least once in your life - what a sad life you've had.

To Wilf: I envy you very much, Rainbow Quest is still one of my great favorites! I was there in 1982 when Akiyda won.

To Parlo: you surely must hope that Shirocco will winn!!!! It would be an honor for German racing and breeding and as I am your neighbour, I sincerely hope that he will winn.

To all interested members: I hope you will be able to see it somehow, on TV or in real, have a tremendous day of racing!!

@Erins Isle: A lot of thanks - off course I my heart is with Shirocco.

Curiously I had more confidence in Shirocco last November in the BCT - sorry, but I have seen too many hopes on German horses gone by in the Arc since 1976 (my first visit to Longchamp - I have written about that before in the forum; Nebos and Acatenango bear the most painful memories).

So it will a dream come true for me as well as all my friends here on the tracks and present there on Sunday, if Shirocco will really get it.

Nevertheless there are strong German contenders in other Longchamp-races of the week-end: Manduro and Soldier Hollow on Saturday and Le Miracle, Shirocco (and a bit Hurricane Run) and our "wonderhorse" 12yo Meliksah in the Abbaye on Sunday.

Meliksah (his warrior-name here and in France is "Willy" - it was given by the French turfists!) is really special: I saw him 13 days ago in his stable-yard, where he runs free and is the town-major (sometimes human beings included).
