He beat 4 other 3yo by 10 1/4 lengths under wraps. Beating competition like this was like asking Picasso to fingerpaint apparently but they were hardly world beaters and it was a 1 turn mile so I wonder how much it'll prepare him for a Breeders' Cup race. The question is whether the JCGC will be just right or too tough a prep for Bernardini and company. I'm curious as to whether they'll wait til next week to figure out where Discreet Cat stands.
Interesting news they haven't ruled out the BC but they're also considering the Cigar Mile. He's trying really hard apparently to say 'hey put me in coach...' but they probably aren't thrilled about putting him and Bernardini together. Should be interesting seeing what they decide to do.
If they didn't want to do the Classic, where would they think of putting him? Is there anything else that fits well enough to warrant not just pointing directly to the Cigar Mile and bypassing the Breeders' Cup?

It does seem odd that there is no dirt mile race on the BC card. On the one hand, I don't want to see the card expanded beyond reasonability, but I would think there should be a happy medium between the extremes of the 6f sprint and 10f classic.

I'm not sure where I heard it but someone said there wasn't even strong support for a dirt mile when it was brought up. Probably a Bloodhorse.com Talkin' Horses chat I'm guessing. I could see maybe putting it off if they weren't sure but geez not even considering it? I ws stunned to hear that.
PS. Oh and just thought about this. If Discreet Cat beat Invasor earlier in the year that would be another plus in his favor if one of the questions is 'who did he beat' as to where you'd rank him. Now that I'm thinking about Dubai I just got bummed about Electrocutionist again.

I just got on Internet Explorer and checked out the replay on the NYRA site. Ya gotta register but I did that awhile back.
I know he wasn't facing the best of the best but wow he's a blast to watch. That was a pretty cool display.
Does anybody know about the Beyer for this?

*pouts* And I bet they don't run him in the BCC. Waa.
I knew it was fast but whoa. "In his sleep" is right. It's been awhile since I've seen a horse do that without trying.

I've not seen anything in him that makes me think they SHOULD run him in the Classic.
If you didn't think you'd seen enough I could understand it. The Jerome isn't the typical starting off point for Classic winners, but you haven't seen anything? We must not be looking at the same horse.
I really think the big reason it's up in the air is so they don't mess with Bernardini's grand charge, not because he doesn't have the talent. The bottom to do it, well I'll admit hesitation on that one, but talent I have no issues with.

Not anything that makes me think he should be run in the Classic.
Okay, let me put it this way.
There is a reason this colt is being coddled. There is a reason his races are being cherrypicked. There is a reason the longest race this colt has run was in ANOTHER country with a suspect field in a race that has yet to produce a horse of any real merit as a 3yo with the best horses having been better in foreign countries than they are here -- with the notable exception of Lido Palace. Cutting Blues and Royals some slack as well.. that one had a lot of potential.
They are either aiming for a long term goal that has something to do with the DWC next year or they are as suspect of this colt as I am.
I'm not saying he's a bad colt.
I'm saying based on what I've seen and this colt's pedigree, 9 furlongs against his peers is going to be pushing his limits and 10f against the best older horses in the country is out of his range.

Raw talent only gets you so far.
