Green Monkey's Mom
Just checking out the Keeneland November sale catalog and found The Green Monkey's Mom is for sale and she is in foal to Forestry again. How many zeroes for this mare and foal?

That subject heading sounds like the punchline to a joke.
Is TGM gonna even start this year? I know Pletcher wants to only go when he's as ready has he can be since he's worth so darn much and all eyes will be on him.
I did some calculations and the thing is I've noticed on a lot of studs, if you work off the rumored price of someone like FuPeg, they like to make the money back in 5 years. Is that really what they're doing? About TGM, when do they decide to just give up and retire unraced vs trying to get something on his resume? I know it's early but you never know since lots of fancy yearlings come up empty or never even come up at all.

I don't think The Green Monkey will ever start. Talking to some trainers that saw him for at Churchill in the spring, then Saratoga in the summer, he's a bit of an idiot, always getting loose, etc. He also doesn't appear to be very fast. So expect him to come down with an injury, and be retired. Figure that he will stand for $15,000 or something. They'll never get their money back, but at least they'll be able to spin it.

You'd think for that amount of money they'd have kept a little bribe to the horse to go into the gate. Wow.
So if he was just standing there does he look like, to use a term, a million bucks? I realize at some point it's a p*ssing contest with Coolmore but there's some of that is legit worth. What would you guys think he's actually worth?

Hi heidiladi,
with 4 blck stocking's and a pure black tale?
also comparing to Siegy's numbers NECKAR=42, TGM=44.

[quote="adrienne"]I doubt you'll see the mare outted... I'm sure the goal is to get her unloaded before The Green Monkey officially flops.
This is strategically the best way to max out on the mare carrying a full sibling to TGM. Personally, I think that's a good move as 'stuff' can happen any time.
And while I think $16 million is an absurd amount of money to pay for any race horse/stallion prospect, I don't think we need to nasty about the horse's connections. I'm sure he is with the best possible trainer. Maybe he isn't as precious or mature to race much as a 2-year old, and Pletcher takes it easy with him. Better to race him later than to get him hurt.
Let's wait and see and let's not be so cynical about the horse and its connections. Some people just have not only tons of money, but also the circumstances to shrug of a loss should it happen.
Three versions concerning the mare and baby, assuming that there will be a healthy baby forthcoming:
1. The present owner is walking away with a nice chunk of money and unloads all the risks,
2. Should TGM not materialize as a stakes runner down the road,
there is always the hope and possibility that his full sibling can run.
3. If TGM wins a couple of stakes races, the mare or the next foal will be pricey and possibly a good bargain this time around.
I wish the horse well as he has no say in this matter.

Assuming you meant precocious (not precious)-- he brought his price at a 2 year old in training sale because he ran blazingly fast. He may never actually be that fast ever again (always the risk run when pushing for that 2 year old in training sale).
There is still some doubt as to whether the $16mil tag was real. Rumor has it he was bought outside before the sale for $4-5mil by Coolmore and run through and up to $16mil just to thumb their noses at Sheikh Mohammed.

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
