...of a horse, Lava Man, that historcally doesn't ship well?
California to Keenland to Churchill is a question mark (and odd) to me let alone the plane failure when the horses that were KY bound was unloaded and horses sent back to the barn and plane repaired, and re boarded the next day.
So, to sum up... barn to plane.. to barn to plane... to Keenland... to Churchill... aren't they just asking for this horse to get beat...?
Isn't this alot to ask...

Well... the plane ride from California to Lexington was undoubtedly direct and Lava Man didn't have to change in Atlanta
so I imagine he got there in about four hours. It was probably quite a bit less stressful than trailering that far.. I don't know what the flight attendants looked like but they most likely got in flight service, including a real meal... and the horses probably were quite unaware the plane had mechanical problems so they would not have been particularly worried when they reboarded. Keeneland to Churchill is a pretty straight shot, an hour plus a little in a horse trailer, not really stressful. I imagine they packed his jammies and teddy bear, and his favorite groom was with him every step of the way. Besides, he is 5 now, a grown up.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

hi louis finochio
I'm looking forward to seeing how Strong Contender fares versus the creme de la creme. He is a VERY serious racing star seeking entry into the superstar MONSTER zone.
The big question...is Strong Contender ready to step up to the highest level...and win?
Best to you.

I recall the same hype about Arazi winning the KD but he could hardly buy a race as a 3yo. I'll admit Bernardini has shown talent but I'm not ready to make him a "monster" yet. The BC will be his first REAL test, as I see it. Arazi had more credentials going into the KD than Bernardini has going into the BC.

I'm always wary when they say someone's such a sure thing on the card. Even if I'm a fan of the horse. It always seems to jinx it. That's what happened with Officer. I didn't think he could win that race with a headstart, they fell all over him, and then he goes and loses.

Very good point about a good alibi-
Should'nt give the owners and trainers excuses-that should be part of the trainers day rate-original excuses-
I am in awe of a trainer (personally) that accepts responsiblity for not bringing a horse to a race fit, sound, fresh enough to win-or admitting to an owner that the horse was overfaced or second (third ect..) best that day...
