Ya, I'm sure that's it as the footager of him on the track EMPHATICALLY backed up his physical appearance. And I gotta say they showed Lava MAn as well and he pales by comparison physically and galloping.
I'm duely impressed!

Larry, do you stutter...?
Good luck with that.
My pick is actually neither. I'll take a trip horse in a race saturated with speed... Giacomo. And he also looked great over the surface the other day.
PS... sort of strange move galloping Lava Man on the turf the other day.. What's that about... might have to run over a wet track... why not train over it..? Whatcha worried about, Doug? Churchill is one of the best organic wet tracks you will find. Brother Derek has foot problems a well... he galloped on the main... just seems silly.

I seem to remember (and I am probably confusing him with another horse) that Lava Man has ouchy knees and the trainer would prefer to train him on the grass to preserve them.

and bad things happen training on wet tracks.

who cares... everyone else galloped on it... what's all that jazz about a "level playing field..."..?
Everything means something as we all know..
I don't know about the knees, but his feet are rumored to be bad and he does have a very pointy looking seasamoid on I can't remember which front. Either way... Everyone else was training over it in one form or another... level playing field.

El Camino,
I'm with you, though I always am sad when a gelding gets the Eclipse and Horse of the Year, because we won't see him in later pedigrees. But when a gelding deserves it, he should get it and I love Lava Man. What a horse!

eh.. if it were up to me, I'd only train on dirt when it was absolutely necessary. But then I prefer grass racing in general.

If I were ever to become obscenely wealthy, I would love to build my own training center that mimics the work places like Ireland and England. Loooooooong turf gallops with lots of rolling hills and the occasionaly 2 foot hedge to pop over.

I've decided I want to breed the first horse to win the Breeders' Cup Turf as a 5yo and the Breeders' Cup Steeplechase at 7 8)

If you're going to shoot for the moon, ya gotta aim high.

I LUUUV the turf! I always look very foreward to working good horses over it. Plus it's a great style of racing! Not all balls out, they actually "finish." IMagine...

A wet track at Churchill is like concrete. Why run on concrete when they will let you work on a bit more forgiving surface, turf. You must remember this is a $5 million race!!!! You do what you have to do.
