ROUND POND romps in the Breeder's Cup Distaff
She absolutely destroyed the competition in the Distaff, but Fleet Indian and Pine Island pulled up. I hope they are all right!

watching a horse snap her leg in half... several times... sometimes in slow motion... ultimatly ending in her demise...might be over the top as far as coverage is concerned... I know I don't need to see it. but that's just me.
I agree with you, the replays were tough to take. At least they took the camera off and didn't zoom in and show the gruesomeness the way they did with GFW. So sad.

Were we watching the same coverage? I was watching ESPN and I saw a replay of Pine Island falling only twice, and no close up of her leg. Both replays were at a point where the condition of the jockey also was not yet known, and the impression I got was that the objective of the replay was to show what happend to both horse and jockey to set the scene for updates on both their conditions. I saw a brief shot of Fleet Indian standing. And some overshots of the vans. So the coverage I saw I thought was actually more restrained than NBC's coverage of Barbaro at the Preakness.
The most poignant image I thought was of Edgar Prado looking back towards the track with no joy at his win, with everything that implied, and again I thought restraint was shown in that ESPN did not try to interview him as he rode Round Pond back to the winners circle.
I don't know that there's a perfect way to keep the public informed as well as maintain a dignified privacy for the injured horse or jockey, but I thought that ESPN did their best to be respectful and restrained.
As I said, though, I don't have HD, so maybe we were not watching the same coverage.

Well firstly I wasn't recording it, because I wouldn't want to watch it again, and if they did cut away quickly such that I didn't see the leg (and I didn't turn away or anything), then my point is made - there was no stationary camera focusing on her leg for minutes at a time as there was during the Preakness.

Actually I did miss Go For Wand because I did not live in the U.S. at that time. I have seen still shots of that incident.
I understand that you are upset, as I am. However suggesting that I'm ignorant is not the way to go. Another poster also said that the camera cut away quickly, and although I saw a replay at least twice - I wouldn't describe it as 'over and over'. I saw the fall but I did not see the broken leg, and excuse me but I'm neither blind nor stupid and would have recognised it for what it was, HAD I seen it, but I wasn't actually looking at the leg but at the general loss of balance of her body as she went down.
But, as I said before, we might not be talking about exactly the same thing. I stopped watching right after the Classic, yet I understand there has been subsequent ESPN news going on with frequent reports on the Breeders Cup and some of the replays you refer to might have taken place during that segment which I have not been watching. If it so happens that they have been constantly replaying the fall since I stopped watching, then I would agree with Tucumcari that this is not appropriate.
It bugs me that so often when differences of opinion occur on this board, the remarks made get personal.

Let me clarify, I am NOT upset, I was disgusteded by the coverage that showed the filly going down several times. And if you are looking for a reason for the horse going down in a "leg breaking away" sort of spill, you will see what is clearly evident, and did infact end inthe filly loosing her life. Sad that I am schooled enough to see it, and interested enough to look for it, I suppose.
It's not personal. Just factual. Relax.

Does this help...
Look at the abnormal angle of the left front. Look really hard...

Shoot, where was I?? I saw her fall a couple of times but they cut it off so fast... I never did see her get up, never saw her walk, never saw the leg. Just saw the fall. Must've been those two distractions mentioned on another thread...
